RAM Problems

I think I solved my RAM problems let me know what you think. Problem is I am trying to run 2133 MHz RAM and have tried on 4 different mobos with no luck. Tried two different sticks. Two different CPU's. Only common denominator is the CPU's. They are both Clarkdale's and have HD Graphics. Read that the Clarkies can only do up to 1666 MHz or should I say maximum memory speed supported is 1666 MHz. I don't have any RAM besides 1600 MHz, two different sets that work, and my 2133 MHz which doesn't work. Anyone tried 1866 MHz or 2000 MHz on a Clarkie setup. Now I'm not talking 1600 MHz RAM and then overclocked to 2000 MHz as I can do that with my 1600 MHz. I'm talking 1866 MHz or 2000 MHz factory setting RAM. Thoughts? I can't think of anything else as The RAM should have worked.

What mobo?

DrNip 09-13-2010 02:56 PM

Tried a MSI, Gigabyte, Biostar and Asus. The Asus was my AMD Crosshair IV Formula. The MSI was a P55 and the Biostar and Gigabyte were H55's all three being 1156 socket of course. Haven't tried a P55 ATX as I don't have one. ONly tried Micro mobos besides my AMDer. Was about to buy one an hour ago but didn't want to keep going down this same wasted money road I have been going down for two weeks now. :(

Guess I could always bust out the POS EVGA mobo I have in the closet but pretty sure it will be the same outcome.

It's got to be the Clardale's. Anyone have a Lynnfield they are wanting to get rid of? Looking for a good overclocker.

You need some fancy footwork to run 2K+ on the CHIV with a Thuban as for integrated GPU CPUs I have no idea but clarks SHOULD allow higher mem speeds

I hear ya on the AMD. I didn't have high hopes for it but was worth a try. Here is what some of the Gigabyte mobo's are saying on Newegg's website.

Quote:

To reach DDR3 2200 MHz and above, you are required to use with Intel Core i7/Core i5 CPU without HD Graphics and install a discrete graphics card. When using Intel Core i5/Core i3/ Pentium CPU with HD Graphics, the maximum memory speed supported is 1666 MHz
It says 2200 MHz but I am only trying 2133MHz. :argh:

Maybe if I install a GPU on this mobo. Let me give that a try.

EDIT: That won't work as the MSI setup I had going had a GPU installed. There is no room at all for a GPU to be installed on the Gigabyte as the CPU heatsink is about as big as the mobo!

WTF is that thing! lol

Looks like you will need to LN2 that puppy ;)

Even then might have to thinsulate the PCIE side of it :(

DrNip 09-13-2010 03:24 PM

LOL I know right! Damn heatsink is almost as big as it. That Mobo is tough though. I'll be taking it sub zero soon enough.

i cant see the full size pic but damn that is a big ass cooler on that lil mb lol

What to do. Buy some Super Talent 1600 RAM or a Lynnfield i750? Both will run me 200 bones. With the Lynnfield I can bench with my 2133 RAM but with the Super Talent 1600 RAM I can bench my i550 and i655k. Or at least I hope. I have some 1600 Mushkin's but they are 6-8-6-24 whereas the Super Talent is 6-6-6-18. The Mushkins aren't really that good for 2D benching which is what I am looking to get into. Think I am going to have to sleep on this. I am open to ideas.

clark imcs are no good. i tried 2 680s and 3 670s and 1 875k ...only lynfields for 1156 can do good with memory...

lynfields are useless though ...lol
