Anything & Everything Sandybridge

The second generation Core

The name of the fastest Sandy Bridge is Core i7 2600K and we can give you an inside in the new naming scheme. First of all you will know that it’s a Sandy Bridge if you see a name with four digits starting with a number two.

Let’s dissect the Core i7 2600K moniker in segments and explain it. Intel Core is the brand of the CPU, i7 is the brand modifier that will help you distinct the features on a different cores. Number two in 2600 is the generation indicator meaning that this is the second generation of Intel’s Core architecture.

The 600 is the SKU numeric digits that will tell you which CPU you are getting and of course once again bigger numbers mean a better CPU.

The suffix K tells you that the CPU is unlocked and the other iterations such as suffix S will tell you that this is a CPU with performance optimised for lifestyle computing and T has Power Optimised Lifestyle whatever that would mean.

Once again, Intel has new chipset, new socket, new names and of course if you want the Sandy Bridge you will have to throw or sell your Nehalem Core i based system and get a new one with a socket that is only one pin shy of its predecessor.

Just as I was saying awhile back, 1365 socket FTL on us 1366 socket mobo holders. :(

its funny because there are more than one pin in 1366 that is literally there for nothing. Just a money grab.

wow thats a total bs move by intel... now I think Ill just hold onto my classy and skip getting the R3E

Witchdoctor 08-24-2010 12:07 PM

I heard that...

Think I am done investing into 1366 .... may grab a cheap 930 since this 960 I just grabbed is a total POS ....

But you have to hand it to Intel ...

They are holding all the cards and untill the AMD camp can bring the mojo

The new Intel boards will fly off the shelves I am sure .....

It will represent the only viable option for Global domination (Evil Laugh)

What about the rumors that intel plans on retarding the Sandy Bridge so it can't run as fast as it's physically capable of?

Witchdoctor 08-24-2010 01:25 PM

That would be a marketing disater and finacial suicide IMO

AMD would have the upper hand for sure ....

I doubt Intel would be that stupid , as we are not where the majority is, as far as overall sales, but we do represent a market share and dominate their Extreme addition sales ....

Its pretty retarded at the moment but the mobo manufs are working to un-leash that performance, fear not, it will be released! :good:

Though they are the performance leader but Intel is evil, :P

Yup the inital design of the X58 had safety features too to prevent it from passing the 130TDP envelope. I think we can all see that was a bust :)
