Which RAM is best? P55/P67

I've been AWOL for awhile due to circumstances both beyond and within my control, and I've done some reading but remain confused when it comes to 4 channel RAM for the P55 and the P67.

I have a P55 Classy that I was just using 2 or my 3 channel modules on, but now I've sold most of that off and am thinking of getting something FASTER. I also have an Asus Masimus iv Extreme on order for which I'm going to need memory for

I'm soo confused ????

Newegg lists modules tested for the P67 up to 1866 while the P55 ones go up to 2500. I'm thinking the faster the better but my head is still in x58 days.

Would appreciate some suggestions

Here's what I've looked at on the egg

Just use what you have Dawg...I float my old Dominator's around like a pimp.

Splave 01-29-2011 04:21 PM

all the ram you listed is PSC IC's I know g.skill is tight with their binning, I cant comment on the other compaines. You will be limited by motherboard or better bios atm so it seems.

Would be a good choice to run at 2133 cas 7-9-8-24 or maybe 6-9-6-24 if you are lucky :D

ORRRR if you dont plan on getting an MSI board hyper is fine lol!

MaadDaawg 01-30-2011 04:30 AM

Splavo - I'm getting an ASUS Maximus IV Extreme, not an MSI. Faster RAM will work with that one won't it??

MaadDaawg 01-30-2011 04:42 AM

Anything else I should look at instead ??

Rick, That's what I've been doing with the P55 so far, but figured Now that I'll have several boards that "require" dual channel" it might be good to invest in some good ones.

You have no problems with your domgts on your other boards?

I'll be floating them around anyway, so a few more docking points wouldn't hurt any :P

I have my G.Skills out for RMA now, using one Hyper ATM.

Asked G.Skill to send the ones Al linked up. I hope they send me them instead of some dogshit RAM

See what happens, if I get them I will let you know how they do .........

Thanks WD

Now effin Tiger is showing my board on temporary backorder while they do inventory. They say the need two days to count (what a bunch of frack ups) - if they backorder me I'm thinking of going with either the UD7 or the ASUS Revolution ??

Fry's has the 2600K on sale for the same price as MC if you need one!!

Just read Brian and Rick's adventures with the ASUS Reveolution and that takes that board off my list :P

Witchdoctor 01-30-2011 06:58 AM

LOL, I hope it gets better for the Revolution but could not recomend this board to anyone as of now. I would go as far to say it is a total POS ........

O well, but if you want dual 16x it and the UD7 are the only game in town, and the UD7 pins both cards together. That was the reasoning I used to buy it with. Was going to say F it and get the Maximus 4 but no one had it................. but still single 16x lane with two cards.

I am wondering when eVGA will show up to the party with the new Classy ?

I've used those Dom's in every conceivable mb you could imagine and never had an issue. :good:

I would stay with hypers if you are gettin that board dogg :)

sorry about the WS guys, Im not in love with the deluxe either with the mulit limiting. Do you think they limit the boards so you will buy their top of the line maximus to overclock?

i have the cheapest board.... but i can do 5.4ghz on it. i think its more of cpu binning

Splave 01-30-2011 09:40 AM

I bet you if you sent me that chip, it would not boot x52 on this deluxe. shall we try ;)

I think they'd be foolish if they didn't :P

+1 on CPU binning

Asus Pro Micro here and 5.5ghz boot. Thinking I have 5.6ghz in it but limited to heat I thinks. Going to the garage with it tomorrow. No need for expensive mobo or at least not yet.

The ones I recently purchased would be best used for XP based benching:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820104207

No clue what IC's would be in these but so far they've done well enough even though my MSI 790FX-GD70 board doesn't seem capable of maxing them out - At least the RAM isn't holding me back and these were cheap enough.

Hondacity 02-05-2011 05:06 PM

those are elpidas...bdbg's ..which are similar to psc..subtimings..

Thanks for that info.

I'm hoping these sticks aren't affected with the same issues as earlier sticks based on elpida chips. Right now they seem good and run cool, even with a small to moderate overvolt applied to them.
I don't plan on really socking the V's to them, rather I'll work with them and see how they behave with voltages used and keep an eye on how hot they get. Since the board doesn't seem to be fully capable of supporting the speeds these are spec'ed for anyway, no sense in volting them up as you'd normally do. I'd have to say since these are rated for 1.65v's at stock settings, I'd guess about 1.75v's max with this setup or maybe a little more if running really tight timings - Maybe.

Hondacity 02-05-2011 06:12 PM

ny_driver i think is getting 1800 @ 8-8-8 with em kingstons ..he'll be playing tomorrow with it.

ny_driver is playing with 3x1gb rams...from kingstons i think they're 2333 or 2250s....

those are strong rams...

i did ddr3 3000mhz with them...with the lynfield.....but that was with the worst subtimings...

the elpida hyper mnhs' were the bad ones....actually even elpida hyper mgh doesn't last long...

the elipida bdbg's are actually ok...don't worry about them dying...lol

ThreeDhero 02-06-2011 10:27 AM

Fan of Gskill myself, have the 2000mhz tridents running @ 7-8-7-24-88 950mhz. I'd like to get my hands on the new ripsaws tho...
