So my second Rampage Extreme is now dead. It appears the cap on the back of the board has blown out again. I am unsure of what is causing this but am getting frustrated.
I was able to get the board to boot at 6100Mhz but thevoltage was low kept getting errors on Super Pi and PiFast. Tried upping the volts and as soon as it went to 1.8V the board shut down. I was at -95C on LN2. I am hoping this did not take out the E8600 again.
Anyone with any ideas please chime in.

I see lots of people over 1.8V with the boards don't know if I am doing something wrong or am not getting good boards.
Well anyway here are the results of what I was able to acheive before things went belly up.

Anyone have any ideas on this. I PM'd Hannibal and my volts were the same or less than he was running. This is the second board the cap has blown on. I will have to RMA this board again and would like to figure out possible causes before before I set up the new one on LN2.

I don't have any answers for yah but a few questions.
My board died on saving a bios setting at stock speeds. It spins up the fans and then shuts off. Just wondering what the dead symptoms are on your board. Does or did it spin up for a fraction of a sec and then die?

My first board would just spin up and never boot. This board the fansspin for a millisecond then shuts down. Now not to scare ya but the first time this happened it took the cpu with it and I am hoping it did not do the same thing this time.
Have you tried swapping the bios chips or booting from the second chip on the board. I have had success when running the P5Q deluxe switching the bios chips around onthe board. Sounds like the same thing I went to save setting and nothing. Pulled the bios chips put the first chip in slot 2 and 2nd chip in slot one and the board booted. I was also able to reflash the bias chip this was and salvage both chips.

Yah, I switched/pulled chips but nuttin. Switched cpu's as well, nuttin. I haven't tested the E8600 on another board yet so I HOPE ITS NOT DEAD TOO!!!!!!!!!!

does this board need mods to run above 6ghz?

Mine didn't but I was just barely above 6Ghz. The problem I ran into was the caps behind the CPU giving out during long bench sessions and taking the CPU with it. Currently I still have to RMA an E8500, E8600, and QX9650. All victims of the board.
