Hey fellas

I seem to be in this perpetual "testing" mode but i tell you what, I love it. Getting the end results is nice and all but getting to it is even more fun.
Always great to talk(&pick his brains) to my mate youngpro during these sessions  who is about to unleash a storm from downunder so watch out for that.
Good to always catch up with the usual suspects during benching you know who you are :p::D

So in my preparation i've battling with the following components in intial stages :)

Test Configuration:

EVGA CLASSIFIED E760 (S610 bios)
Intel Core i7
6GB 2000GT Corsair Dominators CAS7 DDR3 > Week 22, 2009
Asus 4870X2 Graphics Cards
1000W HX1000 Corsair PSU
1hp C-BuZz Single Stage (kayl evap)
160GB IDE Hard Drive
Windows XP Pro 32bit SP3

http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/3438/classi2.gif

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/7025/logoexi.gif
excuse my non-fancy photochop skillz :p:

The purpose of all this testing i guess it to be able to at least get a rough idea what sort of settings i will have a chance to try on LN2 before i start going cold.
I like to pretest on SS to not waste LN2 i guess and i get to concentrate on what i'm doing a lot better than having to pour LN2 all the time.
Wasting money also makes no sense heheh :p:

My first concern was 2:10 RAM ratio. This ratio sucks on my Gigabyte X58-UD5.
I just couldn't get any decent clocks out of RAM past 1GHz with this ratio.
Why this ratio? Well i'm working with 25xmulti so i've got a couple of options here, to go to 2:8 CAS6 which is fine or 2:10 CAS7 which is better as i can max out the RAM as well at top clocks.
There is always the 23x multi as well which i will explore but i'll be battling BCLK here so why not start with easier setup first heheh

I'm hoping to be able to stabilise 32M SuperPi at 5.5GHz so I'll need to be able to run 220MHz bus stable right

OK so lets start there

220MHz bus stable with CAS7 2:10 RAM ratio running at 1100MHz 7-8-7-21-1T

Always start with the good old 32M SuperPi :D

http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/1108/1100mhz787211t32msuperp.png (http://img32.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1100mhz787211t32msuperp.png)

What about 3DMARK01 >> some of the tests in 01 can be pretty taxing on system itself
can it handle , cars, lobbies, dragos >> YES IT CAN
(starting to sound like Obama :D)

http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/8537/1100mhz787211t3dmark01f.png (http://img43.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1100mhz787211t3dmark01f.png)

what about 3DMARK06
no dramas :D sorry i'm just laughing at myself now

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/4412/1100mhz787211t3dmark06f.png (http://img338.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1100mhz787211t3dmark06f.png)

If i needed say 5GHz + NB speed
can it handle that
hell yeah :D
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/5426/5050mhznb1097mhzram32ms.png (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=5050mhznb1097mhzram32ms.png)

Let's bump it up (for insurance puporses only) hehehe
224.4MHz bus stable with CAS7 2:10 RAM ratio running at 1122MHz 7-8-7-21-1T

hmmm 224.4 * 25 = 5610mhz grrrrrrrrrr fingers crossed hehehe

32M SuperPi = Done

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/7479/1122mhz787211t32msuperp.png (http://img338.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1122mhz787211t32msuperp.png)

AM3 can sometimes be a biatch with RAM going too hard
not here :)

http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/1178/1122mhz787211tam3.png (http://img32.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1122mhz787211tam3.png)

3DMARK06 ... looks good :D

http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/7878/1122mhz787211t3dmark06g.png (http://img149.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1122mhz787211t3dmark06g.png)

will it do 1132MHz 7-8-7-21-1T.........hell yeah but now i'm just getting greedy . i dont want to push more cause i'd be devastated if these modules died

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6834/1132mhz787211t8msuperpi.png (http://img338.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1132mhz787211t8msuperpi.png)

This is all nice and dandy at -50C. Now i have to repeat this at -130C with 25x multi heheheh :D

Anyways i've still got plenty more testing ("fun") to do so i'll pop in if any updates occur

If you'd like to try my settings i've got the bios template attached
Let me know if it works for ya or if you have any suggestions i'm all ears :)

Good luck with the oc there Dino....are the GT's you have now still Elpida based?
If so, mine will happily run a tRFC of 59 or lower at those clocks, might help a bit to get your refresh rate up.

hi mate

yeah usually at lower clocks you can get them running down to 56 maybe even 54 but from what i've been told by some TRFC might need a bump. i guess this will vary from set to set

what would the refresh rate do and which RR do you suggest

i havent really touched RR since wolfdale and even that wasnt really making a heck of a lot of difference but i am definitely interested :)

i am actually hitting a strong bus wall at around 228 with these settings
my bclk can go to 235/240 but this is what i am experiencing with these particualr settings no matter if i boot at 204 or 220
refuses to boot at 225

Very nice write-up dinos. Funny too :p If you can pull off 220*25 you will own :D Now is that cpu the 960 coming out, a 965 that cpuz is reporting wrong, or ES 965 that it has all wrong?

Sweet job Dinos !

I miss my Classified after moving off to AMD stuff, the BIOS is so much nicer on Classy.

246.4MHz bus is ok
i can bench 1M but 8M wont go past first loop

i dont really need to push more here even if i wanted to use 23x

hehehe

What about max bclk frequency?Just for validation!:D
What is the max bclk for 3d?:D

Nice Dinos :D Is that a 960 or 965 EE? I'm confused on all these cpuz shots I'm seeing like this. You aren't the only one either. Plus what is you 3d benchable goal for this cpu?

Chuchnit
07-20-2009, 03:48 PM
Sweet. Why isn't it showing up as ES?

RomDominance
07-20-2009, 06:52 PM
I kinda suspected the 960....couldn't understand why you were keeping the multi so low....dawg!

You'll prolly see better results at lower bclk and higher multi....TURBO OFF....of course.

In regards with the ram, I haven't screwed with the rr and my trfc stays at 59 with the 920....I do like to run it at cas 6 when below 1750 though and that makes a nice little difference when it comes to 2d in most cases.

just tightened things up a bit to see how efficient the performance is

looks good :)

Nice one Dinos! On air?

RAM is on air
but CPU on SS of course
there is no way a CPU can run that high on AIR lol

Kal-EL
07-21-2009, 02:48 PM
Wasnt there an article about a 5ghz chip on air over at the bot a month or so ago?

did some frequency testing tonight on LN2....time will improve when i tweak it properly :)

looks pretty good

was forced to run 2:8 ratio though :(
gotta figure out volts etc

not too shabby though :D

Should have my 760 Hydor Cooled up and running tomorrow with the SS for the CPU and water for the chipset & moffsets. Bookmarked your settings and I'll give em a try and let you know. In process of watering my 758 but that'll probably be a wokr or two off due to work schedule :( my DomGTs crapped out and are at Corsair awaiting arrival of the new improved version... in the meantime I'm going to try out the OCZ 2133 PC3-17000 blades and see what they'll do. Couldn't stand it at 1866 Cas 9 even as a temporary solution

play with voltages other than vdimm as vdimm might not help for elpida hypers

oh i dont know if you've been benching high NB but when you go hard on NB you actually have to use more vdimm for the same speeds

eva2000
07-23-2009, 08:32 PM
Yeah i know more vdimm is needed, only benched on air/water to 4700-4760mhz uncore for benching on DFI UT X58.

ah k
yeah i am tightening ram on purpose so that i dont leave any "air gaps" and instead of loosening i'd prefer to increase vdimm hehe

do you have any other suggestions that worked for you. You certainly have more experience in this part then me :D

very frustrating board
again i'm hitting the FF code
was really hoping to show you fellas some clocks i figured out how to run on sunday :D......

i recorded this right at the start of the session hehe after i started figuring out CPU/RAM clocks.....

HEy Dino's,
Would you be willing to post your bios settings to hit those clocks on the CPU
there is not much to it
very similar to my original post
all you do is change to 2:8 ratio with tighter timings pretty much
it's important to work out your temps correctly as well and get a proper mount on the classi

thats about it

HEy Dinos - Where does that CPU max out on the 3d's on '06 both my 965EE and 975EE seem to hit a wall at 4.8Ghz this is with both the R2E and Classified.

dinos22
07-30-2009, 02:02 AM
hey guys cheers for your comments

2cheap > erm i have some problems with this CPU and i still really havent gotten around to getting stable clocks

i will hopefully get a GTX295 and really start going for it

i am hoping 5.2GHz 06

it's not great for 3D :( and this nehalem has been a bitch to tune for 3D no matter what board :(

thanks mate

i am going to start with 3D some more i think
did some testing on SS and found i could do up to about 5230MHz '05 and 5.1Ghz 06 but its not always able to do this....

efficiency seems ok in 05 and 06. i do have some canyon issues in 05 for sure but that's gotta be my card bugging low..i've run out of ideas there

here's an 06 (this was i think 4th run on same boot....you can see that i've done some 5GHz runs there as thats where i did my second run in think and left it on bumped the speed and reran
