View Full Version : First mod rig

Well after seeing Rogue's first build (and being blown away) I thought about my first mod rig.
I ran cases before that, this is the first pc I bought each individual component for, and although it ran in a case for a while, I needed something a little more mobile.
(I lived on the water in Ventnor NJ and was an internet DJ, we partied on the deck all the time and I supplied music for both the party and my listeners around the globe :) (Well half dozen people around the country anyway lol) I needed something that could be pulled out on the deck when needed but could be brought inside for environmental protection). and I hate laptops...
Without further ado, here is the HW pr0n in all its ghetto glory. Feel free to post your own embarrassing snapshots, although I am pretty sure I take the crown on ghettoness :)

My next mod was a real desk mod and was much less ghetto. (Although still extremely ghetto) here is a teaser

And yes that is 2 PSU powering my rig.
Those overclocked 2400XP CPUs need needed a little more power than my 110W PSU could provide so I doubled it up with a 90W to handle the drives and fans.

Imageshack seems to have been hacked...I hope the "Anti-sec Movement" will restore the pictures soon...

Thanks.
Once I get all my stuff here, I have more tools at my disposal here, I should be able to get working on by tech/bench station. Just need to get all my gear over here to start working on it.
Next few nights are going to be tied up learning the limits of this 4890 too :)

That brings back memories :( (the old days) now I have cat's so I need a closed case of a sort (turned a microwave cart into an air box once with a game server inside though) :) most of mine have been filtered mid and full towers.
Keep up the enterprising design I love it.

heh heh old days for "me" modding was 2002/3 I remember when PC's I ran as a kid were all caseless (well at least 90% of my Dad's rigs were). No Cat's allowed, but we are talking 80's. First PC we had in the house (I was too little to touch.. must have been 74/75) was actually built out of wood, out of the back of a magazine probably...
And well...
Aside from the first... filtering is all about pressure... use a purely filtered positive air design it would be fine. My designs could not run negative with filtered intakes... as it would have been too restrictive cuz I was not air tight...(First one especially) Really looking back if that PC was not scratch built over 3 years... would never have done that first setup at all.
Was great clocker though, not as good as Freeagents Barton core of course.. t-breds were not that great.. but.. he was paying alot more for a mobo that supported his CPU too... (I am a cheap ass)
(First and second mods are same components basically if not identically, just summer/winter setups, I had a window to open to let in the cold air if I wanted higher clocks)

That pink thing sticking out of the PCI expansion areathat touches the wall is a glittery 6" kids school ruler. Was reflective enough that placed 1/4 wavelength from my antenna doubled my wireless signal :)
