(A little copy/paste action)

I've had this X2 550 for a while now, but nowhere to put it... ASUS Nordic were kind enough to send a Crosshair III Formula my way along with the OC Station and once I got rid of that buzzing, I got a few decent results in at least. The mobo feels like it was done for LN2 benching, and LN2 benching only. OC Station would've been a bit more fun if you had access to set the voltages as high you do in BIOS, but you can't have everything...

The rig:

ASUS Crosshair III Formula
AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE
Crucial PC16000 C9
HIS HD 4890 w/ Zerotherm cooler (crappy sample, hence the clocks below)
Ryba's Semi-Solid rev 4 CPU pot
PCP&C Turbo-Cool 860W

The results:

Sorry for using Imageshack, not much else to use right now...

I didn't make it a too long bench session, and there weren't that many pics, but at least it's something. I'll probably continue tomorrow night.

Lastly, the CPU dumps:

Sweet, new toys :D

5ghz+ runs @ around 1.5v is pretty sweet.

CPU-Z reports the wrong voltages, unfortunately. The sweetspot was at around 1.8V, which I used for the runs above. :)

Ah, makes sense, I'm not very familiar with AMD setups. Thx for clearing that up, I thought maybe another few .2's on the Vcore and you'd be at 7ghz :Dizzy:

Oh man I really got to get mine on Extreme cooling :)

I know it might be n00bish to ask, but what kind of air clocks do you get?

Also any luck playing with 4 cores, and what week chip do you have?

The chip is a 0913. I have no idea about air clocks, I don't bother overclocking on air anymore. :)

LOL yah i figured you extreme clockers types forget about your roots.

lol jk

week 13, wow... is that an ES or something? Earliest I have seen so far is 20.

Hmm, decisions decisions, another 550 or save up for a 965...

hey

nice one! but i was expecting better x2 chips from amd :) maybe better than 9** series on clocks.. btw, anybody tried 250 on ln2 ?? it was better than 550 on air ;)

It is a retail chip, but it came from AMD itself. No ES or anything, that would've been in the CPU name string. :)

The X2's are just "broken" X4's, so I wasn't expecting anything more than this anyways. :)

LOL Better?

How many 4+GHz dual cores does AMD have?

This chip is my first time at 4GHz on AMD or Intel. (air cooling)

Very nice results. AMD must be so fun to bench. Just fill the pot and go to town. :D

Yeah, I bet the results would've been a bit better if I would've had my F1 EE at home, I'm benching on a budget pot as it is right now. It's relaxing not having to bother with LN2 levels, just fill it up. :)

And some updates:

A little Pi 1M finetuning was what my evening was about. Still, can't get it right in Pi, so I thought I'd make a mess of other things, such as Pi 32M, which went horribly wrong. Also did wPrime 1024M for the first time in my life, almost fell asleep.

At least the RAM access time is pretty impressive...

That's it for tonight. I was planning on some more boring benching, i.e. PCMark 2005, but the OCZ Throttle only gave me 22MB/s during the XP startup bench... Tried switching to my IRAM, but my XP USB install didn't wanna co-operate, so I gave up.

Oh, and yeah, no 3D results as the MSI N285GTX Superpipe OC didn't like me.
