I received the Classified MOBO and I cna tell you there is a sharp learning curve between that and the R2E. It is definately a tweakers MOBO. With the R2E I was able to push this CPU to a 200Bclk with the classified I was haveing a hard time getting beyond 170Bclk.
I was going to do a comparison of the R2E and Classified however 2 hours of LN2 on the R2E and my suspision of the mobo getting weak were confirmed. So I set up the Classified.
Here are some initial runs on the non NF200 Classified,http://www.hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=863926

Good job so far Jeff !
The Classified is one of the best MB's out there right, just look at HWBOT and see how many people used it for top points.
Keep up the good work !

Very nice results for your first session. You will get it figured out and push much further I'm sure.

Bro, I think you're just gonna have to get to know that Classy a bit better. I'm sure you can get bench stable above 5gigeez.
btw, got any in-action photos? :D

You just gotta get used to the bios and whatnot. That is still some good runs.

Bill,
Thank you for taking the time to talk and help shorten the learning curve.

Gunslinger, thanks for talking on MSM with me this also helped with the runs.

Yeah the classy definately has more Voltage options in the bios where the R2E was alot of automatic volts. As soon as I find out what my wife did with thecamera after out vacation I will post some pics. the bench area is undergoing a little re-orginazation

I want my spot back on most benches on the side bar LOL.

I have an R2E based rig that's wc'd that started out life with a 965XE in it and the thing performed! Then, when I got my Classy (I have the one WITH the NF200), I put the 965 in the classy and bought a D0 stepping 920 for the R2E.
I never could get the performance out of the R2E with the 920 tha people were getting with the D stepping 920 on the Classsy. To say the least, I was bummed :(
So... I put a 975XE on the Classy and now plan on either selling a bunch of stuff, including the R2E, or, putting the 965 back on the R2E for awhile and maybe even freezing the 920 for a bit ??? Don't know for sure what to do yet.
I do feel from my experience that the Classified is far and away the better of the two boards. ASUS tech support told me the R2E would either OC the CPU or the RAM but not both.... the Classy DOES BOTH WITH EASE :)
Yeah.. time to sell the R2E, but they're not making the NF200 edition anymore :(

I have yet to [ut my 965 on the classy however I can tell you the R2E with the 975 did 4700 uncore with ease. I am still trying to figure this finicky biatch out. It appears the 975 that I have sucks on air however it still throwing surprises at me on LN2.

You have to be gentle with the 975. Unlike the brute 965 that will take anything you throw at it, the 975 doesn't like high voltages, so you need to find the sweetspot where she'll purr for you all day long. Start out at default settings with everything on auto and gradually increase the clocks, you'll be amazed at how fast you'll get on little vcore. Then go manual and fine tune her :) After getting used to the Classy bios, the ASUS bios really sucks cause it wants to do everything for you behind the scenes. Would rather do it myself :)

I agree the classified has alot more options and seems to be the better of the two boards. I have to get the 965 on that board as it did rather well on the R2E however the board seemed to be limited with what it could do. Next LN2 session may be with the 965. Now I just have to RMA the R2E.

I had a similar confusion between the r2e and classified, they are very different beasts!
I'm currently running the nf200 version classified and loving it! it makes you work to find the sweet spots but it deffo rewards you when you do!
keep pushing it , im sure there is much more in that combo.:)

whats the batch# on that CPU
what sort of coolin and CBB & CB did you experience?
what got you past 170MHz bus speed in the end?

I will have to get the batch when I get home I spend from Sunday bight until Friday on the road with work. I can tell you I've had the CPU at 200clk however I need to play more to get any type of stability out of it. This was also on air with the intel stock cooler. I had the uncore at the lowest setting and QPI set to 4.8 setting under CPU feature.
I have yet to figure out the CB and CBB temps. This weekend it wouldboot at -95 then I would try and reboot at -75 and CBB. Heat gun to the pot bring the temp down to -68 she would boot. Reboot at -90c and it would boot. I have yet to get this CPU beyond -100C so I am unsure where the CB is.
I will test out the CB next time I have it on LN2.

I'm curious, what exactly is your RE2 doing? The Classified is great but I wanna try another board, I was thinking RE2.

When I press the power button the fans spin up and the LCD poster goes right to the time and no boot. Thiis is with both the 975 and 965 processor. I will be calling Asus Friday to set uoan RMA.

good results mate, your doing well... i find the classified a sharp learning curve also, but once you work out what works and what doesnt it is a very powerful and strong board

I started with a 965 on the R2E on water and the sucker screamed for me. I was posting amazing speeds at what everyone was telling me was low voltages ?? Then I got a Classy (758 w/NF200) and put it on phase with the 965. Definately was a learning curve but once I learned it I fell in love. With the 965 all you have to do is throw volts at it and it says "great, let's go faster" lol Then I got a 975 and put it on the classy under phase... it went faster, and scored higher even at the same speeds, but throw volts at it and it says "hey, what the frack you think you're doing??? turn that stuff down"
Been using the R2E with a D0 920 as a gamer, but can't get warm and cozy with a locked proc, so I decided to sell the board and bought a new Hydro copper classy to use as the gamer. Not sure if I'll sell the 965 or the 920 at this point though :Dizzy:

Yeah I know the story too good. I have the same issue here on my end. The 975 don’t like voltage at all and makes you work for the sweet spot. At the other had my board seems to like a higher BLCK and uneven multis. Also can someone tell me what the Turbo is good for on an unlocked chip? I mean is there anything going on behind the scenes in terms of current surveillance. I just feel that with turbo disable the board runs better. Any thoughts on this guys? :scared:

On my 965 I turned Turbo off.
I had pretty much the same issues with that chip that you guys have with the 975. But I had really crappy memory at the time and could have been most of my issues. I will be getting that chip back here soon and will run that chip again and see what happens.

Yeah in my case I have the Dominators GT's so this should be not the problem. I have to work harder on this mobo/cpu! :D

975 is a nice CPU but i never loved Extreme Editions
simply because you can do the same thing (if not better) with non Extreme one :)

I don't use turbo on the classy and I know ram isn't the issue. two boards two extreme processors and the same issue. starting to think I wasted money and should have went for a xeon. One more LN2 session and both of these CPU's may be in the market place section.
