Why do cases still come with 5.25" bays?

Not bad other wise...

NZXT still using all aluminum designs?

Sharp case though, the Giga OC board would be off the chain in that

I had the Zero, was an aluminum case and ran VERY cool. Case was like a giant heatsink.

Slight delay in assembly...I decided against a window side and I'm swapping out case fans for red led models. There will be a soft red glow visible from all screenage. Thinking of orienting the cooler so the 200mm top case fan draws the air upwards and out.

Installation of the Phanteks cooler proved to be a pain in the a$$...too many obstructions on this Classified mb. This configuration is the only way it will semi-fit.

These temps are just idle...having a bit of a problem with the rig atm. Just before dis-assembling the old pc to swap out parts I began to experience random bluescreens. Now, with fresh drives, memory and OS it will bluescreen at the drop of a hat at default settings. Hoping the mb is not going south.

http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq69/rickss69/NZXT%20Phantom%20Enthusiast/firstboot_zps4d0b7d56.jpg

Question - What should the NB temps be on this mb at default settings? It's showing around 105 degrees in bios within minutes of start-up.

EDIT: Problem solved...it is these damn Zotac 560 Ti video cards. Jerked them out and installed the trusty 5850 and she's running sweet now.

It isnt pushed down, but the cooler is bearing right against the fins. I'll pop over to Evga's forum and make inquiries.

It shouldn't if that massive heatsink is mounted properly. (I had the 760 also iirc) It was teh coolest running NB i had used on x58.

I'll have to get some reply from Evga to know what the temp range should be...no idea if it is reading Farenhieht or Celcius.

EDIT: Yep, it's Celsius. Appears something is wacked...maybe the hsf is pushing against the NB fins and it is losing good contact. I shut it down and guess I will need to take this apart to determine the problem for sure. :this:

IIRC some of the boards arrived with a slight bend in the NB. PITA but I'm sure upon inspection you can correct any deformity.

02-28-2013, 10:01 AM
holy hell Rick! that thing is running smoking hot! i thought my ran hot, but not THAT hot! my 762 ran around 70C, i end up adding a bigger fan on the heatsink.

btw, i know this sounds kinda dumb but is the fan on your chipset cooler plugged in or working at all?

also if i remember right, the onboard voltage regulator or what ever people call it runs smoking hot as well.

NICE CPU TEMP

There are no fans on the Classified. I will pull it out this weekend to investigate.

The NB temp on my Classified is 65c. I think the cpu cooler is pushing on the NB fins making it lose contact. Or the heat from the cooler is blowing into the NB fins?

yea Duke that was the quad SLI version as eVGA tried to capitalize o the Classy's sucess. That NB cooler was problimatic on many boards, remeber Dent used to weight his down so it would make decent contact ...

you could try taking it off and lapping it a bit and with some new TIM may see better results

Thanks guys - Took it all apart, re-timmed and made sure there was no contact pressure on the NB heatsink. Temps are back to normal now...I'll take some pic's of what I changed when I get it back on the table.

Not entirely happy with the solution...I had to change the cpu cooler orientation. After benchmarks I go back into bios and see the NB temps have climbed to the mid fifties...probably a little higher before I get there. Is there any monitoring software I can use to view the NB temps in real time?

You could always just swap in a AIO liquid cooler. Might not be as effective on an open bench, but you move the giant tower out of the way. That will improve caseflow which is always a good thing.

Looks like you might even be able to top mount an h100 style unit.

It's either an e 760 or an e759, impossible to tell from the pic. The e762 was a clunky IMO.

The size of the cpu cooler is not a problem at this point guys...nothing is bearing against the NB. Another cpu cooling solution would do nothing for NB temps. I have never kept up with NB temps in the past so I have no idea if this is normal behaviour...the addition of the spot fan could only have been a positive. :Dizzy:

rick, i think those chipsets runs hot no matter what, i remember my 762 ran smoking hot when i had it in my 24/7 gamer

Nope, I had several of those boards and the NB NEVER ran that hot

I'd guess the big air cooler is nudging the NB HS at a slight angle just enough to break contact. Water cool the board and your problems are over dude

or downsize your CPU cooler :P

Once again, there is no longer any contact. It is what it is for whatever reason. No, I will not be watercooling anything in this pc lol....if it can't run on it's own it will burn the frick up on it's own.;)

Tried Everest Kal, but no NB temp monitoring there either. I've asked Evga if temps of 55 degrees were normal after running a benchmark...awaiting a reply.

http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq69/rickss69/NZXT%20Phantom%20Enthusiast/4GHzbench_zps96d24817.jpg

EDIT: Evga says that sounds about normal...also say they know of no software to monitor NB temps either...as long as under 100 degrees it's good to go.

I was able to install the 1TB hdd from the old rig so I didnt lose my DOOM game which I have vowed to beat this time lol. Using the single 5850 atm, the Zotac 560 Ti's are going in for rma Monday because of the sli problem. If I can't get any satisfaction from Zotac I will probably sell the cards and go for a single card solution like a GTX 680 or a 7970.
