View Full Version : WINDOWS 8 BLOWS

Just when I thought I was getting to like it, the damned thing blew up :ohcrap: I went to load an ROG screen saver (which was dumb cause my new lappy isn't ROG) and it told me it couldn't run because it wasn't win 8 compatible, so, I say OK to close the install... next thing I know DOS boxes are opening and closing the the screen goes black :wtfsign: So I press F9 and go into safe mode, no dice, black screen :argh:
I end up opening a command window and manually backup my files to a thumb drive just in case the "refresh" doesn't keep the files as promised.
2 hours later, and I'm back to where I was before this shit started
Win 8 does have some nice features, and the start screen ain't one of the , but it doesn't seem to be ready for prime time yet... could that be why Microsoft has already announced Win 9 for next year :Dizzy:
jeeezzzz
Tomorrow I gotta replace the power recepitacle on my ROG laptop... that should be fun ..... I'm told this is a known design flaw in the model I have (G53JW), but I've got two new fans and a new keyboard so why send it to ASUS for a month.... :Dizzy::Dizzy:
New lappy has a 3630QM with a 635m nvidia card with 2GB, not too shabby and a whole lot cheaper than the ROG version :D Oh, and Bang & Ohlafsen sound with a little plug in sub woofer and all

Sounds nice, grabbed my son a Lonovo Y580
quad with 660M and 32GB SSD cache
boots in 13 seconds from cold and comes out of sleep in 2
Should do well for Solidworks

Sounds like a nice machine WD, max RAM mine can take is 16GB, only came with 8 but I happen to have a couple stix laying around rofl.
I've found Win 8 is bearable if you pin everything you need to the taskbar then just stay in desktop. The fucking tiles on the Start screen are just too confusing, besides, I have no intention of staying socially connected while surfing

Are you a social outcast ...........
Has been bullet proof so far on my end. Other than it does not like my Outlook 2007 version
you can grab a start menu from just about anywhere, although the free ones are addware for their app's
Their is a definint learning curve but I guess I like it for no oother reson than it is different, the misconception that Windows has to be the same since it inception is going a long way in torpedoing this OS
Change is good and glad to see then go out on a limb rather than simply rereleasing the status quoe.
Not much middle ground here, it is a love hate type of deal, but this interrface will morph into something great I am sure, even if it isn't untill Windows 15
:ohcrap:

lol.. could be Win 15 rofl
Like I said, there are good points to it, but having to sign in every time i started the computer to stay in sync just didn't fit my idea of what an OS should do. I've got it set to a local account now and no more signing in
I like the way it auto detected and setup my printers, that was cool. I've had no problems with Office 2007 apps including outlook. Only time it went south on me was when it tried to load a Win7 screen saver ... went to shit then.
And YES, I am a social outcast  Since I only have 1 Win8 machine I couldn't think of any good reason to stay in sync :Dizzy: Just another way for THE MAN to track you down
Interesting bunch of crap you have to go through to get to BIOS too .... at least on this ASUS machine, but then, the BIOS isn't much to get into anyway  Press F9 at startup, then maneuver through menus to reboot into the BIOS... give me back the delete key dammit :wtfsign:

Had my aunt return a laptop today because it came with windows 8. Couldn't even get online with the stupid thing.
I didn't spend much time with it though, and will not. I have added to my rule. It was... I will not work on Apple products, I have added windows 8 to that rule :)

I have to say I tried the Beta of Win 8 and didn't like it then and when my brother got a new machine with it pre-installed, I didn't like it that time either.
Recently ordered 2 copies of Win 7 to have so I can totally skip this crap OS.
Winblows 8 should be more like it to describe what Win 8 actually is.

Started it up today to another corrupted file, couldn't get anywhere near the operating system to do jack, so I took the damned thing back to Tiger and got another ROG lappy with WIN7  Got a buck fifty off for my troubles and they copied all my files to a SD card. Only problem is, even the top of the line ROG comes only with HOme Premium, does that suck or what? Anytime upgrade time :ohcrap:
In one of the newsletters I get from Microsoft, they have already said that there will be another release next year, code named blue if I remember correctly. Obviously they know this 8 piece of shit is nothing more than Vista 2

Damned good idea Bones, the guy at Tiger said Mircosoft is pulling win7 off the shelves so people will have to use Win8

Had to spend some $$ I really wanted to use for other things (Hardware) when I got these copies but figured I'd best do it or do without.
One is for the wife's PC and the other is mine of course. Got her W7 Premium and myself the Pro version - I've no need for the Ultimate version.

would have thought all you guys would have plenty of copies in various forms by now. ;)

I don't have the spare $$ some of you guys do..... I'd have more assorted pieces of hardware here with a dewar for some LN2 benching if I did but nada on both.
Besides, I tend to be a cheap bastage anyway whether I actually have the $$ or not but since I bought a house last May, it's really out of necessity now. :D

I was just trying to understand why anyone would need multiple copies...are you running more pc's than you normally would at one time? :)
I haven't even tried w8 don't even wanna bother with it .....
So there is really a w9 coming out that's just retarded

Don't know what it will be called, but there is always something else to follow...probably sooner rather than later from this release. :taunt:

The wife has one, I have one for daily driving and of course the not-so-defined setup for benching (Tech bench) that can be anything at anytime.
The golden rule of "You don't bench your daily driver" applies and making sure I don't have to do that.

So, by your count you already have three copies of an OS...why the need for more? Also, are you really using a full blown legit OS just for bench work? I probably have every legit copy of Windows OS's you can think of, but only one of each.,,and I have had upwards of six pc's running at one time doing various things. I think I have more than donated enough money for the "legit" purposes. ;)
Ppl still pay for Windows
My only real copy I own is xp home :scared:

No, these are to replace what's there already as in XP since I was putting it off as long as I possibly could - And it's no longer possible to put off. Needed a copy of W7 for the two everyday machines, the benching rig can and does run anything I throw on it.

You're lucky Rick, fucking MS is always accusing me of running a pirated version even when it is one I bought from the store.. assholes. Change any equipment (HDD, MB, CPU, etc) and the installed Windows sends a message to Microsoft that it's in "another" machine. You are then guilty until you can prove yourself innocent, which is a royal PITA.
There is a URL you can buy full downloadable versions of windows with keys for about $59 for win7 Ultimate. You won't know you're buying from China unless you look at your credit card and see the transaction being changed from dollars into Remimbe :rolf: They do work though :D

I have copies of every single OS. I have pages of codes I've compiled over the years. I do exactly the same thing you do.

I've had a couple of instances where the damned robot takes the numbers then tells me "tuff shit pal, that number's no good anymore, thank you for calling" and hangs up - so - I call right back and go through the exercise again but at the end the second time it asks how many computers I've installed the software on, and I answer truthfuly ;) ONE. the bot says , oh ok, thank you for activating your Microsoft software, good bye
