Thanks Kal. The first one is a TTArmour, the second in an Antec 1200.

Much more roomy, pump and res up front. Best part of this setup is when you dismount the cpu block, the board is free to fly out.

Thanks Dr. Just sold the Extreme, C0 and some Patriots to fund some up grades. I think the eVGA board is a bit stronger on the top end, but damn I'm going to miss that Gigabyte. Brilliant bios.

I hear ya. I will prolly miss the DFI bios when switching to the Classified as it had a great layout as well as easy to use. Who knows, maybe the Classy will be just as good. I am thinking that I will use the Classy for strictly sub zero land and the DFI for my grocery getter.

I still miss my DFI X48 DK Plus, that thing was a beast with an 8600.

The Classy's bios is the same as the X58 Sli's, and all I can say is that it's straight forward, not close to Oskar Wu's brilliantly sophisticated creations.

I haven't really done much with Intel in the past few years so I am interested to see how much the process really differs from an AMD OC. I say run it till it wont run no more and see how long you can hold it.

ReverendMaynard
06-11-2009, 07:44 AM
I'm not really sure that I'll be sharing the process...it's redundant in a site with a crew that are all capable, hard core clockers with i7 experience but it'll get pinned to the max and if I don't see smoke I know I can add more volts :)

Last AMD setup I ran was an ASUS A8R32-MVP with an opty 165 3ghz on air back when AMD was king. Still waiting for them to get their poop in a group.

Archer
06-11-2009, 08:42 AM
That's cool!! I know the ropes as all are basically the same just the details that differ. I am stuck with AMD at least till the i5:D

Being a guitar player, I love Adam Jone's style...but Danny Carey is hands down the second best drummer to ever sit behind the skins, right behind Neil Peart from Rush.

Just reserved 6 tickets to the Aug. Toronto show. Can't wait.

Saw Rush about a year ago with one of my best buds in Phoenix. Glad he talked this old man into goin, when Neil went into his solo in witchhunt, yyz, and the trees....I almost pissed my pants.....He is right up there with David Gilmour in my mind as the best in their field. The folks in Romulas claim those two for our very own.:D

You sold the gigabyte!! I thought you were going to stay on f4j forever.

From what I have seen those, unless you are on a ss, your not going to reach higher clocks on a classified. Those things tear it up with a semi decent multiplier and high bclk.

what's your handle at XS tajoh? I needed a D0 desperately and fund wise, the Giga got me enough to pay for it straight up so I bit the bullet. I miss it. Very finesse type board and super efficient.

tajoh111
06-29-2009, 02:56 PM
Sorry I don't know the phrase, but i guess you are asking me what do I think of XS now. I think's it not a bad community(but it is getting worse) but too much hate for nvidia, and too much love for AMD. Its like people want NV to go the way of the dodo.

But man, the gigabyte wall of 222bclk is felt so hard with a 21x multiplier its not even funny. D0 are so much funner to bench than c0 so I understand the need to make money, but reverandmaynard, you had a good c0 from what i remember. And you loved the gigabyte. Mine was moderately ok, I could bench at 4.3 ghz with HT on, but now I can bench with 4.66ghz which is the limit because of the wall.

The classifieds are not the most efficient from what i have seen, but get it cold and you can use a high multiplier and a high bclk.

I hope you get that classified under cold. I have seen way too many canadian buy the classified and just use air which is a complete waste because they are way too temp limited to get the most out of the board.

ReverendMaynard
06-29-2009, 03:21 PM
haha, actually I was asking what your name was at XS, but I've noticed it's the same. Sorry about the confusion, but your points are well spoken..it's not the same there.

That C0 was a beast, I'm surprised you remembered it. Topped out at 4.577ghz but she had a weak IMC so it couldn't handle 2:10.

I'm not interested in the Classified, this vanilla X58 does me well enough got now so when DFI brings out a proper board, I'll hit it for some action.

Kal-EL
06-29-2009, 04:06 PM
Sorry I don't know the phrase,

Tajoh, "Handle" is a slang term for nickname. Truck drivers using cb radios had handle(s) like "Rubber Ducky" "Bandit" "Boss Hoss" "Tajoh".

Ever watch the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" :D
