Since I'm spilling some beans here and there I decided to open up a thread here in which I'll be posting some results from the small review that I am preparing for the 680 ( under 120 pages hopefully ).
For the time being I only have completed measurements from a GTX 580 ( MSI Twin Frozr II OC @ 800MHz GPU - 1024MHz MEM ( GDDR5-4096 ) and some from the GTX 680.
I'm testing everything, 1080p, 2048x1536, 5760x1080 ( nV Surround ), etc and I'll add a HD7970 too.
Mind-boggling amount Games & benchmarks incoming :P

Same like the above tests, 1920x1080 4xAA 4xTrSSAA 16xAF
All game settings at Max ( Ultra ) except PostAA which is set to Medium ( high and ultra blurs the image quite a lot due to the nature of FXAA )
GTX 580 @ 800MHz - GDDR5-4096 = min 29fps - avg 43.349fps - max = 66.666fps
GTX 680 @ Stock = min 44.333fps - avg 58.613fps - max = 91fps
52.8% higher minimum FPS
35.2% higher average FPS
36.5% higher max FPS

Time to see how the "Ambient Occlusion" feature in the nVIDIA Control Panel affects the performance.
If a game doesn't support Ambient Occlusion by its own, with an nVIDIA graphics card you can force ( enable ) Ambient Occlusion by enabling it at the nVIDIA driver's control panel ( there's a "Performance" oriented setting, and the maximum image quality "quality" setting ).
Let's take a look at 2 games for now:
Ambient Occlusion
NFS Shift ( 1920x1440, 2xAA 16xAF, Max Details )
Off = min 138 - avg 155.617 - max 183
Performance = min 105 - avg 113.608 - max 130
Quality = min 78 - avg 85.533 - max 98
Resident Evil 5 Benchmark - Fixed Benchmark ( 1920x1080, 4xAA 2xTrSSAA 0xAF, Max Details )
Off = min 146 - avg 169.667 - max 220
Performance = min 117 - avg 136.976 - max 189.5
Quality = min 109.5 - avg 129.15 - max 172.5
Have you tryed 3dmark or like heaven ?
I never seen that setting lol
With games I just set everything to max quality

Not the green team's fault, nor their demands and purpose.
In Europe and Asia ( where the consumers with the ability to buy GTX 680's are significantly less than in the US ) there's good availability, and decent prices.
In Europe since... the Euro currency got introduced, the pricing of computer HW was nearly on a strict " price in $US = price in Euros" ( $499 GTX 680 = 499 euros ).
You can get a GTX 680 starting at 460 euros ( no extras hidden, sales tax included, all inclusive ).
Some shops ( hint hint NEWEGG shenanigans ) just price gouge when they see the opportunity to make the most out of a small amount of cards.
Checked NewEgg for 7970 Lightnings yesterday... and saw the price and said "Oh Gosh!"... but then again... I did a local search, and at the moment in Greece and the UK ( Amazon ) they're asking 700+ euros for it and thought about the previous "Oh Gosh" a two times :P
