Here's a quick look at how I insulate vid cards, the subject is a 7970

Items required
1. 7970 ........
2. Fatdaddy pot
3. Sham WOW orange and blue flavors
4. Clear nail polish ..... yes it is AMD
5. armaflex tape
6. Blue painters tape
7. .5mm shim (Can be simulted by laying pennies on the rail road tracks........)
8. Thermal paste of choice. OCZ clear cap Freeze is used here

1. Remove stock heat sink ...... Ahhh yea
2. Nail polish the open leads in the socket
3. Apply thin layer of eraser to front of card, I typically go to the outside edge of the mem chips
4. leave the bottom to last and install PICe protection strip with eraser
5. Install rear PCIe protection strip with blue painters tape
6. Apply tape to rear of card
7. from the back poke small screww driver though mounting holes (Important step ..LOL)
8. Apply armaflex layer to rear of card and poke holes through that
9. Make sure all surfaces are clean on the pot chip and shim (After cleaning with alcohol I rub everything down with a coffee filter, learned this of and old friend DEMELO for NBOC great guy BTW)
10. apply paste and set shim, apply paste and set pot, aplly light even presur to rear of card
11. take apart and confirm mount reinsert pot again appling even pressure on rear of car
12. Tighten down pot
13. If the eraser was done to the proper thickness your pot will seal against the card above the GPU and in essence help prevent condinsation as well as act as a blanket keeping the board and mem chip a bit warmer
14. Cut orange Sham Wow to fit just inside pot posts
15. Cut Sham Wow to cover posts
16. Apply armaflex over both peices (This reduces condinsation on the rear of the card)

Good luck and have fun ...............

Nice photo gallery and very neatly assembled Witcher! :)

Q: Is there anything between the painters blue tape and the pcb? Just nail polish? Any problems with the adhesive conducting?

Thanks

I just put nail polish in the socket area, arond the chip it self and the four slots on the retainer, the back I just put the tape right on it. no conduction going on thus far :)

No, I am not good with that type of stuff, plus these have to be marketable when I am done. OCP will probably hold me back, but I will try to get everything I can out of them

WD - I am a little confused on how your VRs and moffests are going to breath?

Just passive air ........

VRM heat may hold me back, but after benching this card for two days now I must say it is an amazing peice of hardware but a bit finiky .... tem pswings did not seem to effect it yesterday @ 1412/1790

today at 1460/1790 it was a small window of opertunity

cold bugs out at -98 and carashes above -86 .......... :Dizzy:

My arm hurts as I could hardly put the thermos down ..............

Over all I am happy with the results, keep in mind this is only the second time I have poured LN2 ......... but I am loving it, but at $ 2.25 a liter it unfortunatly won't be offen. Hell for rental and a 35 liter fill I paid $ 133.00

but ultimantly this LN2 shit makes even me look like a decent bencher ...........
