that should say enough about the situation that I am in at the moment. As a new user to sandy bridge I was wondering if there was anything specific you all did to preserve the chips (more than just cold) and if anyone had any advice on how to get the most out of it.
Its max multi is 56x but I know it will do near 5.7, crashed trying to vaidate at that speed.
any and all advice is appreciated!

Tried multi of 55 and a lower BCLK?
My experience is they'll go as fast as they will, and no faster :ohcrap:
what type of cooling are you using ?
but like md said once you hit the wall it really doesnt matter what you do

is there any use messing with the BCLK skews and skew voltage or whatever?

negative, the max cpu-z is usually within 10mhz of the max benching speed.
For my 5880mhz chip its as easy as setting
1.685vCore
1.1vCCIO
.85vCCSA
1.75vDimm
Will boot 101.3x58 thru 104.7x56 and anywhere in between. The easiest way to boot at higher bclk though is to boot low multi say x40 and set your high bclk like 108 so you boot 40x108 and it will probably soft off at 79 post code and then boot or hang at 19 then boot again and say oc failed. If it boots fine then set your multi and it wont shutdown to apply it. If the oc failed shows up ignore it and set the multi anyways and it will boot if your chip can do it.
If youve played with a bad chip and a good chip you can tell that a monkey could OC a good chip but any amount of tweaking till the cows come home wont make a shit chip any better.

thanks for the info mr sprave :p
Chip only does about 105BCLK or so but it should be good enough to get max Mhz.
Have only tested on water, but I will give it more jiggawatts once i get it on DICE or Ln2.
I booted straight into winders at that 5650, and it almost made it at 5700, but needed more voltage than i was comfortable giving on water.
and my previous 2600k and 2500k were both walled at 5100....it sucked. But dam you are right its easy to overclock these LOL

how many chips did it take to find that 5880 chip Splave?

I think of it more or less like losing $50 per chip, more like 1.5k

dam thats alot. Microcenter put a limit of 1 per household on the k series processors guess their not in favor of binning lol

thats commitment!
you going to be binning 30 3960X's too?

went out for a couple more 2500k's....and they both suck.
one maxed at 52x the other freezes at POST with 52x.....
whatever, got good CPU for benching at least.

I bought one too an it maxed at 5080 mhz, just a tad worse than the 2600k that I bought with it.
But I did discover possibly is that if you get the top left blinky icon just after post what you can do to get a bit more out of your chip is move your sata cable around to differant ports. I diconeccted my DVD ROM that was hooked up too. Reboot after each position swap an it may just make it into windows. I did it a few times now, I dont know if it was coincidence or it works but worth a shot. Let me know

testing out max benchable frequency :)
that was probably the easiest 5Ghz+ overclock I have ever done. Now need to focus on efficiency and modding the GPU's....

hehehe lady luck was on my side that day
Dont know about you but I just get the feeling its easier to find a good 2500k than it is a 2600k.....or 2700k for that matter.

With older batch it was definitely true for me. I tested around 40 2600Ks to get 1 57X and 2 56X. And only 3 2500K to get 1 57X & 1 56X.
With the new batches though, it all seems screwed up. Everything looks to be crap.

my 5.7 cpu is from the 45th week in 2011....pretty much brand new.....got another one here as well.
second cpu is untested though.

So mid-november, when was 2700K launched??? Dont know why I feel after the launch of 2700K, batches have gotten a little worse. Or maybe my already fucked up luck has,:laughing:

maybe all 2500k shipped to india are no good?? haha
heard there were no good 2700K in the US at all...
Idk my batch haven't even looked but I got very lucky
Had got a 2400 to have a daily rig but it oc for crap and 25k where sold out on newegg they came back in stock sent it back and I ended up with a 25k x59 cpu lol

^ so damn lucky!
never once has newegg given me anything past 56X :(
tested almost 200 here.. lost count at 170s.. (so far sold 2x58.. killed one 59X.. left with one 58X.. walls at 5830).
like splave said.. shit chips are shit no matter what. However some lucky guys get chips that respond well to cold (supposedly) where they report max multi @ 56 or 57 and when under ln2 (-60 to -90C) all of a sudden, shabaam.. extra 200-300 mhz.
I still don't know how this is possible since i've tried and no chips i've ever had done that. (ex.. i think canna1988 59X was like that)

lol im on number 8
so far the odds have been pretty good.
gonna stick to the 2500's as i hear they are the way to go.
just got a new chip as well, batch 3147B095
still need to test
