Hardware List Final (http://www.overclockaholics.com/forums/showpost.php?p=88533&postcount=217)
For as long as most of you guys have known me, I have never really had a fully functioning water rig, very recently Mr. OCM was kind enough to help me out with some water gears I should have a full rig up and running very soon.
Waiting on USPS to drop off the package right now
Here is some of my ideas...
Back of my case
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/ghostloveff/Project%20Hybrid%20Water/RealBack.png
Because it is a tiny case both of the rads has to be mounted out side of the case.
As up to now I am taking all suggestions on where should i mount the rads at
I did this picture laying on the ground so kinda look a little funky
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/ghostloveff/Project%20Hybrid%20Water/Backsetup.png
As the picture showed above the one of the side will not open so the rads has to be mounted on the open sides.
After looking at Mr.OCM's new post the mesh I have always been a huge fan see though side and was thinking about mesh the opening side and have the rad just hang on by the mesh not 100% how well will that hold up, I'd love to have some feed back on that.
I will be running 2 rads, 1 pump a full rig with 1 CPU, 1 GPU, and Chipsets

I would mount one on the top and one off the reaer fan if it were me. Connecting a rad and lines to a removable section of the case is a clear mistake as far as I am concerned.
What Size rads are you using? tri on top for GPUs and a dual on the back would be good for CPU.
Is this goig to be a gamer ??? as water pretty much blows for benching other than 1155. Jury is still out for 2011 if water will be as effective on this platform.
I think you will have a lot fun building this ..................

Kiki,
I tried top and bottom, it works but it makes you case longer and taller. make sure you have enuf clearance for it to cool correctly.
I hung mine on the sides which worked out quite well. I used extra tubing outside so each side panel could be removed and swung completely out of the way. you could also use Koolance quick disconnects.
where you gonna fit the pump(s) and resv(s)
Can't wait to see your pics bro :D

I will be having 3 3x120mm rads, there will only be 2 used in this build, it is mainly for movies and some gaming, but more importantly it's going to be used as an office machine so it has to look professional as it can be (all the lights has on/off switch installed :D), that's why i went from my sexy looking Thermaltake Xaser VI to this Antec Sonata case.
I'd say this system is 75% work and school, 25% gaming since I have a 40in TV hooked up to it so there is some kind of movie play at all time. But there are times I can feel the computer just don't have enough power like when i am playing Black Ops and watching a 1080p based movie and it needs to be overclocked from 333FSB to 400/420 to have it run smoothly, but that extra 80 something mhz will heat up the system from already hot enough 60C on load to 80C i haven't had that temp since I dumped my Pentium 4 3.0E
MD tbh that setup of yours got me the idea of doing it side by side
I have OVERCLOCKAHOLICS written on top of the case and OCALLIANCE on the open side that's why i canceled my first idea about doing it on the top but that's no big deal i can always re do it
OH and for Chiller......
My camera is broken cuz i took too many dirty pictures this summer now it's been in repair for 10 weeks now as soon as it comes back I'll be spaming this place with pictures
For now I'll just use the iphone instead

Picture update
Placing the rad on the upper side of the open side
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/ghostloveff/Project%20Hybrid%20Water/highrad.jpg
Placing the rad on the lower side of the open side
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/ghostloveff/Project%20Hybrid%20Water/lowrad.jpg
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/ghostloveff/Project%20Hybrid%20Water/lowrad2.jpg
As I was thinking, here is another idea
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/ghostloveff/Project%20Hybrid%20Water/lowradin.jpg
That way there is no tubing will be showing out side of the computer.

Putting it on a removable door = FAIL
How will you access tah hardware
How about a Rad box, bitch for lan parties though ............
kikicoco1334
10-24-2011, 12:03 PM
I was thinking about making it clip on so that way everything would be easy to be installed and removed
This project is gonna take me a long ass time to do...
lol
That box is a awesome idea but don't I need 2 PSU? one for the computer one for the water rig?
I really just need to keep everything simple and clean but 1x120mm rad WILL not hold all the hardwares i need to cool :S
As up to now i am just waiting on USPS to drop off the package

1 triple rad on the roof would be fine. Plenty of ways to mount it so you'll see minimal tubing. Don't hang it on anything that opens. It's a disaster in the making.

now i have been looking at some of the pictures on other sites and seems like there is other ways of doing

kinda glad i got some time to think it over, and been thinking about just give this setup to my mom cuz she really needs a upgrade from her single core AMD 754 and bust my i7 back out and water that thing and just use that as a 24/7 but then it ain't gonna be a hybrid no more lmao!!!
but for real tho.
if i do the i7 i'll be needing a 1366 water block and a few other stuffs....
but the good part is i'll be in my thermaltake case and that thing is pimpin!!!!!
What type of wb where u going to use ? 775?

ALL RIGHT!
A quick update, I have revived all the hardwares, almost ready for some sexy action
Here is a list of what I got atm
CPU D-Tech Fuzion unsure the version with stander nozzle
GPU Swiftech MCW82 with plastic nozzle
Pump Swiftech MCP-655 no nozzle needed
Res Swiftech MCRES-Micro with plastic nozzle
Rad Swiftech MCR-360 with stander nozzle
Chipset Koolance CHC-122 with 1/4'' threaded
Motherboard Koolance MVR-100 with 1/4'' threaded
All nozzle are 1/2''s
Going to stick with Primochill or Tygon for tubings
Setup:
Asus P5K-E WIFI
- (only south bridge going to be air cooled)
EVGA 8800GT 1st Gen (512-P3-N801-AR, gonna save my N802 for benching)
- OC @ 666MHz on the core, 1000MHz on memory
- 8800GT at that clock plays black ops alright a little lag once in a while but I don't really game that much anymore
Core 2 Quad Q9300 M1
- (aiming for 3800/4000MHz+)
2 sets of TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX
- been doing some googling and seems like it's going to be an alright set for 1066 5-5-5-15 or tighter @ 1.95 ~ 2.20v or so we'll find out

ok this could be the BEST or THE WORST idea i have ever came up with......
so been thinking want a easy way out i'd be more than happy to get my driller out and poke some holes but before that i got some magnet from the HDDs :D and i can just use those magnet to hold it to the case cuz they are EXTREMELY strong and i remember i have alot of them some where in the house what do you guys think?
OC Maximus

ummm... I think magnets erase data from the HDDs Bro
kikicoco1334

I have always been told about it but the thing is i have tried to erase my data with the HDD and it never worked :/
I may just be doing it wrong or something
^^^^ I was about 13 so give me a break!
Ever since then i have allways had magnetized stuff stuck on the side of my case @.@
once again I may have just been really lucky but yeah....
Think I still may just put a few holes on my closed side of the case tho just be on the safe side cuz i got too much data if I lose anything I'll prob set something on fire again
I'll post some ideas in a little eating lunch atm

The in and out really don't matter apart from pump/block convenience in mounting (usually see res>pump>rad>block>res). The orientation of them also shouldn't really make a difference. I'd drill outside to in, the inside of the hole will be covered up with a screw/bolt head (they're #6 screws, i think 32 pitch, positive, but they are #6 for sure). And maybe i need to read the thread better but how are the hoses getting in?
Orientation of in and out as well as the angle doesn't matter because the loop will just hit it's t-delta and it won't really matter. The whole rad will be roughly the same temp so just use the in and our that is convenient for your situation. No certain mount orientation will provide you with better results, so if you like the angle thing, go with it.

Normal orientation is res pump block rad not rad -> block.

I am using [Pump]>[Motherboard]>[Chipset]>[CPU]>[Rad #1]>[GPU]>[Rad #2]>[Res]>[Pump]
I am not really good at this so I kinda mark everything very clear just so I don't get them mixed up.
I was actually wondering which side should I install the fan on? as up to now, I have it installed on the hose side but will that be too close to the case and not get enough air flow?
The white holes are where the tubing is gonna go
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/ghostloveff/Project%20Hybrid%20Water/withholes.jpg
TBH MD I was gonna do it just like yours where it's gonna be sticking out like that but because the case is too damn small it's not gonna let me :/
MaadDaawg
11-09-2011, 11:44 AM
Dude, you have to have space between a solid wall and the fan intakes, and, I at least always try to keep the heated air blowing away from computer. Bitspower makes some neat radiator mounts that hold the unit about 1inch from the wall of the computer. Koolance makes a really neat rad mount that has flex arms to move in and out, but it's about $45.
Removing the case fan for the water tubing could prove problematic because you case still needs to breath. Think that's why OC asked where you were gonna put the fans.
I'm thinking that case is just a little too small for what you're trying to do Bro.
kikicoco1334
11-09-2011, 01:17 PM
I see,
Will it be better if i just put 4 holes there on the bottom?
What i am trying here I think is just build a very hybrid system that's got a little extra power than what it looks
Since this is my FIRST modding I don't want it to be too compacted but at the same time I want where I get alot of practice but i monna take it slow tho, just so I can make sure I do everything right
DAMN I WAS CREATIVE WHEN I WAS LITTLE! now i am old! :D
I monna swing by home depot tomorrow after class and see if i can find anything there
My idea was pretty much build a holder type of thing where i can drop slide any kind of rads from 120mm to 360/480mm based in and lock it in kinda like a HDD trey in your case
TBH MD, your rig is where I got some of my ideas from and OCM is the one give me the motive to actually get my lazy ass up and doing it and for the first time in my life wanting to make it look nice

Seriously again, your drilling into the grill over the pcie slots, which is going to make swapping out any cards very difficult, might even make the whole thing not work.. don't know.
I say go for it and figure it out as you go if need be, that's basically what I did with the Battlestar :D
BTW - you can find the duck tape by all the quaking and honking noise they make on the shelf

I HAVE DUCK TAPE IN THE HOUSE!!!!!
so we all good on the duck tape part!
I am just gonna cut some part of the grill out and just enough i can put some protection around the tubing and have it going into the system we should be good
The only part i'll be drilling is the back of the case which i'll have to make sure where do drill n all
i am making some of the best stake out there!!!
I am really just looking for a very clean system with alot of power but don't wanna go the extreme end something 430W PSU can hold up

Or calling all mp3 players "ipods"

Yeah but calling it duck tape is liking calling transparent tape "Scotch" tape because 3M made it and it had that red palin trademark on it.
Or calling all mp3 players "ipods"
I am no grammar nazi, but I do pronounce duct tape, as duct tape there is a T on the end that is pronounced :)

EB Green is what I've used for years.
"EB Green is found throughout the Navy and rumored to originate from the Electric Boat shipyard, hence the name. If you’re a US Submariner (current or former) you probably heard stories about and experienced the unbelievable strength of “EB Green” duct tape. This stuff is not your Home Depot run of the mill duct tape (http://www.cobweb.net/~neeley/duct_tape.htm); I swear when applied properly its just short of epoxy backed Kevlar....."

OC, if I remember correctly it is about Kiki building a water cooled PC, I have no idea how duct tape or silver tape is being applied to this build. All I can say if tape is involved something has seriousy gone wrong with this build.
I have built probably 25 water cooled systems in my time starting out with home made blocks prior to these designer web sites that simply sell you what you need.
For the life of me I can not remeber using any sort of tape on any of them, zip ties yes but tape ............. ahhhhhh nope no tape I am sure of it ............
I got into this discussion simply to stop my beloved DUK TAPE from being dragged through the mud :ohcrap:

Kiki,
If yu are using 1/2 fittings, you can use
7/16 ID 5/8 OD
7/16 ID 11/16 OD
1/2 ID X 5/8 OD
1/2 ID 3/4 OD
Tygon 3603 is very flexible and long lasting. Won't kink like vynle hose will. 7/16 gives you a real tight fitting on your fittings, but the 3/4 gives you greater preasure handling, which you really don't need. If you're going to use compression fittings, make sure they are for the size tubing you get

Sounds about right, but difficult for me to know not really seeing it live. Thinking I used 10/12ft for my dual loop in a full tower though. This was with a dual loop, dual resv/pump in a dual bay slot so the distances were less than if I had used a pump mounted at the bottom of the case.
don't forget to take into account the exterior mounted rads - leave enough extra tubing to move them if you need to.
kikicoco1334
11-16-2011, 07:33 AM
Yep I forgot taking count of the tubing between CPU and rad then to GPU.
I emailed the guy last night and doubled my original size of the order.
On the order said 2~3days and it's coming from Indianan, REALLY hopping it's gonna be like 1 day or so :rofl
But think again, it NEEDS to be 3 days, recently I found out i have absolutely no self control and I have two project due at the end of this week
I got my rig a part, and seems like the light strip is really a lot longer then I remembered so gonna change that up a little and also the old way i had the lights in it didn't really give the maximum lighting in the rig, cuz some of them had to over lap to fit.
My tablet is out of batt atm, but I'll post the new idea i got on the mounting for the rig is a little smarter and more removable

i just got some numbers, the case is 420mm long and height is 430mm, the rad height is 125mm and both rad is gonna be somewhere around 90~100mm apart, and they are 400mm long
there is gonna have somewhere between 25~35mm sticking out for the tubes to come out.
this is my first time modding ANYTHING for it's look, so kinda have alotta retarded questions...

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/ghostloveff/Project%20Hybrid%20Water/drl.jpg
here is a huge gap between the place where the motherboard install bay and the back of the case how do i get around that?
or should i just drill it though, cuz i actually been getting sooo many (i am not goona say good ideas but) ideas that may just work great, instead of having to screw it from outside in, i can just stick a longer bolt and just have it there at all times, so when i wanna do anything with the rad i don't have to remove the motherboard everytime i can just unbolt it and be done with it.

If I follow you right, drilling holes under the motherboard to hold the rad in place may make it easier. Doesn't that panel come off the case at all?
Thought occurred to me, why not just relocate your PSU to the top of the case and mount the rads in that space? Might need a few extensions, but :Dizzy:

No, the Sontana's back don't come off and because the case is too damn small on top of all the stupid stuff I am putting in it, it's not going to have enough room for the rad to be installed inside or moving the PSU around, there is only one place for everything in that case
The tubes should be here tomorrow, by the time I get home till the time I HAVE to go to bed i have about 6hrs (that'll be local time 2300hr got traffic school Sat. 0800hr FML) should have enough time to get most of it done

It's because you have more air than water in your loop. You need to keep tipping the case around and adding more water as the air is expelled. Those rads are still empty.
MaadDaawg
11-19-2011, 05:35 AM
yeah, like tip it up 45 degrees or so, but with that amall resv it's gonna take you awhile.
Might consider going pump to CPU and then to so you don't have such a long unbroken water pathway. Might also help if you open the system before CAREFULLY filling the loop initially. Close loop means higher pressure.
shit.. just lost a bunch of wisdom I had written down only for it to disapear into the etheric
If that is the little swiffty Resv, it looks like it should slip out of the bay. If so, take it out and open one of the unused ports that is blocked off as an air escape valve. Open it slightly so only a little air will get out. Obviously this should not be on on the bottom  Then Open another port completely and use that pour your coolant into the system. Fill as much water as you can that way then turn on the pump. Once the pump runs dry of coolant, turn it off. Repeat A LOT until the look is practially full. don't forget to tighten all losed caps on the two ports on the Swifty. Probably can use those to bleed the loop too :)
You also might want to consider mounting a fill port on the top of the rig and running it to a "t" connector so you cna pour easier. If you're using a little swifty resv it's gonna be a bitch filling that loop
Looking real nice though dude :)

another 2 cents :D
Looks like your going pump rad / gpu / rad / cpu/ resv / pump.
You should really hit the CPU before you hit the GPU. Why not
pump / cpu / rad / rad / GPU / resv / pump
or
pump / RAD / CPU / GPU / RAD / RAD / resv / pump
Either one would shorten the amout of tubing which would increase the flow. That's long single loop. You way should work too, just more burden on the pump.
looks bad ass the way it is though :D

It's because you have more air than water in your loop. You need to keep tipping the case around and adding more water as the air is expelled. Those rads are still empty.
+1
Just noticed you had some coolant in two of the outside hoses which means it had to have put at least some water throug the rads. Top rad will be the bitch cause it's higher than you resv.

Not to sound liek a picker of nits, but judging by your phots.. you might want to try plugging it in!!!
LOL
jk...
Yeah totally have to fill, roll case around, fill roll case around...
If you can pull the res out of the back of the bay area (or the front)... do so, lay the case on the rads (carefully) then you can leave teh res open why you fill and bleed.
I like using extra tubing too, prevents kinking and also allows you to move stuff around when necessary.

couple things.
several decades ago I was doing a build, and it wouldn't boot no matter what I did. This was back in the days of DOS, and switches, and jumpers... no PnP  FINALLY ended up elmer's glueing a paper washer on top of each standoff before I mounted the board. Started right up no probs - maybe that's where your short is too??
also, I have a full set of waterblocks for a 780i That I'd be willing to let you BORROW.... or buy DS LMK
Try the washers - they are made out of heavy dute paper that looks the same as shipping envelopes. MicroCenter has them. Prolly an ofice supply too. OR, hope depot sells nylon washers that would work.

Dear friends and family, Tu Fu came with another question.....
In the picture below is part of my rig's tubing, I was wondering why is some of my tubes are like retarded? you see the higher one it's got ziptie on it to keep it around and the one that's right below it is like flat...
Why is that?
It don't seem like it's effecting the cooling much but just wondering why the hell is it retarded like that how do i fix it?
I think it may have too much negative pressure in the loop and the tube is extremely soft

Kiki,
That's usually a sign of too sharp of a curve, or, the tubing is torqued.
you need to make all your bends large enough do the hose doesn't collapse. As I remember, your tubing looked pretty good??
Sometimes if you tighten a tube to a fitting and then turn the fitting down tighter, the tubing is torgued, twisted, which can cause it to flatten. If you try to turn a hoses curve against the shape that it's used to being in can cause this too.
You can also get that spiral tubing support stuff - works, but I was never a fan of how it looked.
You got top of the line tubing so I'd guess you torqued them during installation ?

Just kind of a reference, for all the guys who have used PT Nuke in the past, how much did it came in the little bottle of yours? When my got here it was only half full....
Also, I popped the cap on the water res and released some of the pressure and replaced it with water and it don't seem too too bad now but that one tube still looks like handicapped
How the fuck did i forget about saying this...
Special thanks to OCMMM who's kind enough to supporting me with all the water gears, and thanks to all the oca members answering my n00b questions
Remember I posted one of the pix of my rig, and how it was running at 2800MHz ish and it's temp was like 60C idle, and 70/80C gaming (can't remember the number anymore but its around there)
Today, I got my full rig up and running and everything looks AWESOME! More importantly I got the little bastard running at 3375Mhz +/- 5% at 30C at start up 32~35C at idle and after 2hrs of black ops I was only around 48~50C
On the 8800GT it ain't lagging anymore, and it's overclocked from 600 to 700 on the core and 900 to 1150 on the ram (this is the POS ver from EVGA, N801 not the N802 or what ever the hell which one is faster and better overclockable)

Why would someone give you shit for not having an optical drive? So what if you do not live in the past :)
I have one DVDRW in the server, no other PCs in the house have an optical drive.
If I need something, I put it in the server and ISO it.
If I need to install something I make a bootable USB stick, faster and lasts a hell of a lot longer :)

Product Description & Info
Petra'sTech PT_Nuke-PHN is a specially formulated Benzalkonium chloride solution intended for use for non domasses in your water cooled PC. Primarily geared toward systems running straight distilled water, Nuke -PHN is not acidic and will not drop your coolant's pH, making it ideal for use in poorly buffered coolants and situations where corrosion is a concern (since many corrosion inhibitors are optimized for use within a pH range of 7-8.5). However, we do not recommend the use of Nuke -PHN with most "pre-mixed PC coolants" and dyes (though, our testing indicates that there may be no compatibility issue with Feser's UV dyes). Do not mix Nuke -PHN with the original Copper sulfate based PT Nuke.
Instructions & Ingredients:
Use: Add 4 drops per 1L of coolant for approx. 2ppm
Active Ingredient: Benzalkonium chloride 1.65%
Warning: This product contains Benzalkonium chloride. DO NOT INGEST DOM! AVOID CONTACT WITH EYES AND SKIN TU FU! KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS, DUH!

I told them I had the i7 975 setup with multiple cards etc and they sent a unit I couldn't use. I tried to send it back but they didn't want it. Not sure how it works, but I would think it couldn't be less of a PSU than the one ya got now.
pm me if you're interested

Thank you MD!
You sir have a new PM in your box
But yeah I didn't know you can kill a board by under voltaging....
Prob another reason why my chip isn't overclocking at all. It didn't even wanna hit 400Mhz on the bus
My current board also only have 4pin vs 8pin like anyother boards got, ther then the 24pin on board power, that could also be one of the things i am missing

Quick update to fill y'all in.
Here is my SLAWE @ 3.0GHz 400 x 7.5 @ 1.60/1.70v
So far it seems very stable (or most stable then before.)
I don't ever see the 8800 going over 44C on any load, and CPU jumps between mid/high 50s to low 70s for 1.60v
Still working on the ram because the FSB and the ram are linked with 400mhz so i can pick between 960 and 1260 and i KNOW i can't get it to boot at 1260 so just matter of how low i can get the timing (5-4-4-15 @ 2.20v is a no go)

i am an idiot....
i was wondering the chip and the vga runs so damn hot can't find anything wrong with in the rig, the water heats up so much the rads are getting hot too....
then i tried to install some lights in the rig and touched the fans, those suckers wasn't even spinning at all!!
and now..
only now, my rig is in the happy temp on the vga @ 37~39 and some how the cpu runs really hot and needs alot of voltage still trying to get that taking care of

Question.
How bad is it to have stuff growing in your loop?
does it just make it look nasty or does it actually effect anything?
I really think my loop is getting worst even tho i leave it running about 18hrs a day

Stop using toilet water. Get yourself some distilled water from the supermarket. My rig has been running forever without any growth what-so-ever.

Wow can't even spell the name of your local supermarket. Kroger. Did you buy the right stuff? IE distilled water is not Deionized water.

Cool, at least your still on water. I'm going from water to air on the 24/7 rig. It's time foe a change. After taking a look at temps I may switch back to water. We'll see.....
