School just started, and i no longer need my old giant machine anymore...
Just all the extra things that was in there that i never use and don't really care for.
On top of that it's taking up WAY too much space >:( so i decided to downsize the machine

(just sent off my cam for repair i'll post pix in a little)

CPU - Core 2 Quad Q9300 M1 - L805A907 didn't really need all that extra horsepower from a i7 six core chip
Mobo - Asus P5K-2 Wifi this is the only 775 board i have that's got 6 SATA ports that's letting me hook up enough HDD to a motherboard... don't judge me! i have issues
RAM - CMG4GX2M2A1066C5 DDR2 i just sent off my RAM for RMA so what ever OCZ is gonna give me next is going in here
VIDEO - FPD1810 Gateway 18in LCD screen + 40in. Sony TV the 18in screen is my normal bench screen as well that's the only screen in the house that allows me to run 3DMark06+ with the right res :(
VGA - EVGA 8800GT with MSI cooler for now soon i'll be switching it to GTX260 after i find it and done LN2ing it
Sound - Audigy 2 ZS as sound card, didn't have a space in the case for the the front panel
Speaker System - Logitech Z-5300 5.1 + BOSE 321 hooked up in 7.2 surround ;)
Case - Antec Sonata Proto not much to this, got it as a gift and it really fits the space i was hopping to put in. the only prob is it can only hold up to 3 5.25in + 4 3.5in and that's a problem i have 6 HDD, and i keep one in the removable trey, and 2 in the Antec HDD cooler and they are both 5.25in bay and now i don't have a single space for my BD-RW
HDD Config - NO RAID
---1--- ST31000528AS - 1TB 7200.12RPM drive used in OS and all other Softwares
---2--- ST31500341AS - 1.5TB 7200.11RPM - inside of Antec HD COOLER - Discontinued
---3--- ST31500341AS - 1.5TB 7200.11RPM - inside of Antec HD COOLER - Discontinued
---4--- ST31500341AS - 1.5TB 7200.11RPM - inside of a removable tray
---5--- ST31500341AS - 1.5TB 7200.11RPM
---6--- ST2000DL003-9VT166 - 2TB 5900RPM for recording TV shows and everything :D
Heatsink - Venomous X (http://www.thermalright.com/products/index.php?act=data&cat_id=27&id=177) special thanks to OC Maximus and one of the fan is from Valkyries's brother P1ForU (i kinda just highjacked during the last overclocking event i had)

dose anyone know why i can't keep my cpu below 40C to save my own life?

a) It is summer time
b) you are using a case crammed full of parts (mid tower and steel)
c) Software monitoring issues? the 45nm core2 series had lots of issues with software temp monitoring since Intel did not release the actual TJMax of the chips IIRC. Think it was solved, but might have gotten broken again in newer applications

hmm good point bro!

what is the best way to know the temp other than stick my hand in the case and feel the heatsink?

True temp
IR thermometer

Probe or IR.

I would just stick my hand on the heatsink. It is much cheaper :)

i have been doing that for too long lol
maybe that is the best way to go rofl
but yeah it really ain't much hotter than my hand most the time gonna go home redo the thermal with something nice and see if that gives any diff

oh btw the heatsink on that system is Venomous X (http://www.thermalright.com/products/index.php?act=data&cat_id=27&id=177) special thanks to OCM and fan is from Valkyries's brother P1ForU :D

Why are you dwelling over 40 degrees on a quad core 45nm chip? I mean there is a chance that it could slightly be better but then it could always be worse. You're just fine where you are at. Realtemp will prolly be more accurate than the software you are using. I believe the TJ Max was 95. Also what do you need 9 TB's for let alone in non RAID configuration? Maybe I'm missing something here, lol.

i have no idea why the temp is so bad in the system :( i really think it's the way i am mounting the heatsink and the thermal i am using...

i'll start realtemp when i get home and see if any diff in that...

i just personally don't like RAID unless it's a server setup and each HDD has it's own use so i don't get things mixed up also they are named in SN so that way i know what HDD went down if any i'll know which one right a way

thank god it's friday already i monna be redoing the system tonight or when ever i get home
i'll see if i can find a damn camera in the house i can take some pix for y'all

just turned 21 this summer and took too many dirty pix with my nice camera and it kinda broke so there...

just got done with everything and didn't see any changes at all!
i really think it's just the room temp + being summer + when i am not home the temp in the house is 81F/27C and when i am home the temp is set to 77F/25C so the temp is so damn high

email one of my professor right now after this i monna play/rape 45min of black ops and see what's the max temp on both the cpu and gpu this should be fun

edit: the 2nd pix is from coding for 45+ min and the pix said all
think i monna try snap another 120mm fan on the the cooler and a 120/80mm fan on the video card

You definitely have head room on the temps there... temps are a bit high for 2.5 GHz, but they can handle a bit more heat than that :)

If you get your hands on a P45 you should be able to clock the crap outta that chip.

I am a n00b clocker but managed to push my q9300 up to about 535 FSB on air. back when they were new.

( I do not even recall what heatsink I had, but it was in a case kind like that one... hmm irony for you... the case I sold to my boss with a ASUS p5 something board, and it just came back for some janitorial work recently...)

holy god! that's 4ghz!
i am researching it and see what i did wrong cuz i remember my zip tie blue orb? it did a hell lot better than this...
that's like a wtf moment right there......

when i get some more time i'll clean the cpu and the heatsink real well and then try again cuz this temp is just stupid and i even lowered the CPU Core voltage and FSB temp below the rated the temp didn't change at all if not went up...
so.....

i am on the edge of saying hell with it and go with water but don't wanna deal with water just yet...

TBH i rather LN2 anything over water or even dice just cuz :D

i have a temp pole somewhere i monna just stick it in the computer for now just to see the real temp of the heatsink and all that good stuff and go from there i really hope it's reading the wrong temp of it then it's really that hot......

WTF happened to this? Your pix tell a different story than what you said and show you at mid to upper 50's and even 60's. Something is wrong.

Water is a pain in the ass and unless you spend shit loads of money, is not going to give you better than air temps.

Except in the situation where your case flow sucks and the rad is outside the case.

I use water for winter time subzero action that is it :)

sry i ment to say 50s...

but naw like the same heatsink with the 970 it keeps it really cool can't remember the numbers but from what i remembered it was like half of what i got on this

but again i7 is 32nm this is 45nm

i mean i have some simi ok parts for the hardwares but just don't have the time to set it up and maintain it

yep just fixed most the cooling issue...
comes to over heating the heatsink only got 1 120mm fan on it also the back case 120mm fan was on LOW! and when i turned it to high the temp dropped about 3~5C no core went over 60C with few hrs of Cod black ops and some other game open and a 1080p movie going on the other screen
room temp is 73F/23C

did some overclock it dose 460 just fine needing to tweak it tho

Venomous X (http://www.thermalright.com/products/index.php?act=data&cat_id=27&id=177) with a stander silverstone fan
i am trying to find the other thermaltake cooler i had have no idea where it went
