I bought this Jeep over the winter and it looks a tad bit too rusty for me to drive around. So I'll do what I can to make it look decent. ;)
This is one of the biggest drawbacks of living in NY....we use salt to make the roads drivable....flocking brilliant I tell ya. Sand seems to work pretty good for the rest of the country/world.
First pics are the Jeep untouched. Then the wheels being reconditioned, then the Reese hitch being reconditioned. The hitch is sitting in the garage painted and waiting to be reinstalled now.
Check out the 2-3 pounds of rusty corroded steel I knocked off the Reese hitch with a hammer.
Ordered some Good Year Wrangler AS/R yesterday. By the end of summer I hope to get some fender flares, a 2 inch lift, and some 31" tires.
More pics to come.............

Salt is where I make all my money in the winter dude.
What year is that Grand? I have a '93 with 195.000 on it that looks brand new. I just got rid of my Wrangler that I had for like 10 years also. Yeah, I guess you could say I'm pro Jeep.
Remember....if it doesn't say Jeep on it, it's a sissy car.;)

You'd still have a job sanding the roads right?
She's a '93 with 105,000. The guy that owned it was old and never washed the salt off.
The interior is great, non-smoking vehicle and lightly used. Wish I could find a replacement tailgate and get rid of the worst of the rust.

Sand just makes a mess. It really doesn't do anything.
Most of the customers that we support expect bare blacktop within 24 hours of the end of an event. Salt and liquid de-icers are the only way to achieve that. That's why we make the big bucks.

Salt isn't so bad if you aren't too lazy to wash it off regularly I guess. I'm just mad at salt because my Jeep has been neglected.

Nice little project. Lookin great!
Jeep fan myself. Had a Cherokee for years (not grand). Family outgrew it so we replaced it with a Commander. Fun to drive, but still too small and the stadium seating sucked - so sold it after a year.
Now I'll just have to wait until the kids get near driving age and talk them into fixing up a CJ5 or sumthin.....

Got the hitch reinstalled. Jeep looks a lot better overall, but it'll take some work to make those holes in the back door disappear.

Nice to hear all the Jeep love. :) This Jeeps main purpose will eventually be hauling my sled. Someday I'd like to sink a couple thousand into it and get it looking something like the red one. Skip the fancy rims and front bumper I could probably be there for ~$3,000. With bumper probably close to $4,000......then I'd have to get a matching rear bumper with tire carrier, now we're talking $5,000......then a real lift kit with quality suspension another $2,000. :Dizzy: It'd be nice to turn it into a real 4-wheeler though.

I spent the last 2 days under the Jeep ball peen hammering, chiseling, scrubbing, and scraping off 18 years worth of corrosion. No eggageration, probably 10 pounds of corrosion removed.
I pretty much got everywhere besides under the exhaust and I'll do that when it gets replaced. I sprayed on 12 cans of black rust preventive paint. 14 counting the 2 used for the rims.
The rust holes don't look quite so bad now on the back. I'm going to bondo them and make them disappear eventually.
The pictures don't really do it justice, but I'll still share them.
:D The jeep is sweet now, I can't wait to get some tires on it Friday.

Thanks brother.
I put a LOT of work into it this past week. All I have left to do is wash the windows inside and out. Probably get some tint pretty soon. :cool3:
The tailgate, fenders, hood, license plate holder, and vent covers are all painted with rubberized undercoating.
