I got $200 for the i7 860 I had, and still have a Maximus III formula to sell. I was able to pick up a 2500K for $80 (friend owed me $100), and I got a MSI P67A-GD55 for $120 after $20 MIR. Microcenter was nice enough to let me use an expired $25 coupon of an Intel mobo

So in the end I got a good upgrade, and cash in my pocket

Previous build was a red theme, so just going to have to wait and see how the blue board mixes in. Going to pick up a C400 SSD or similar here soon, and likely a 6950, or a pair of weaker cards. Have an H50 and a Tuniq Tower Extreme to pick from for cooling right now, untill I can get a decent loop going. Its going to be my daily/gamer setup.

I would use the tuniq. IF you intend to push the cpu to its limits :)

Was almost done hooking it up with the Tuniq, but my ram wouldnt fit under it :(
Now I got to tear apart the HTPC for the H50.

Did you try spinning the cooler 90 degrees?

No, but I still dont think it would have worked. The H50 is holding 4Ghz 1.25v under 70C so far. Its only temporary till I get a real loop. Trying to decide if I want the loop, SSD, or vid card upgrade first.

Sweet.... SB = WIN

What fans are you using on the H50 ? ....

maybe some 110 CFM slipstreams could help

A friend owed me money and was selling his, so I got it for $80.

Almost at 4.4 stable so far with 1.275v. The voltage control on this board is pretty nice. If you put 1.25, you get 1.22 idle, and 1.248 load with the "low vdroop" option. With the high option, it overvolts .02 at idle, and undervolts .02 at load.

OMFG.

Prolimatech Air cooler holding 5GHz at 65C load so far :( H50=fail

kiki... its 50% more for the 2600K for nothing more than HTT... 2500K is good deal

Partially depends what fans you're using with it, those temps do seem high though, the mount is good? :/

I was only using it with one fan at the time, pulling from it out the back of the case. Got the rest of the fans I needed yesterday, and put a push one on it. Down to 63C after Linx 20 passes and 12 hours of prime, 1.3v 4.3Ghz.

Auto overclocking prolly get you 4.6 ...

My board has a 4.6 button

Got 4.4 stable I think, took 1.325v. Topping out at 74C with the fans down to "quiet". Should be able to get 4.5 stable with the H50.

4.5 is stable with 1.35v, no other changes. 78C max after 14 hours of prime.

Couldnt get it to boot at 2133, but havent tried too hard yet. Been using 1866 8-8-8-24.

Got a GTX-560 Ti and a Samsung 470 128Gb SSD coming.

You will need to raise Vccio to get it to run 2133. I think only about 1.15 IIRC. More helps.. I push 1.25 when i'm clocking the RAM up with tight timings at 5GHz..

Yeah, was going for daily stable. Dont have enough time to get back to benching yet, my hours just increased again. Once I get better cooling, I might try to run a few quick ones just to see what it can do.
