Guys I about bit the bullet and bought a Maximus IV Extreme a second ago. They are in stock at the egg, but prolly already sold out. I'm looking for a board that will work great for a 24/7 system but still have some fun when I wanna toss in the benching hdd and rip it up. I just can't seem to find a board that isn't bugged to hell and back in one form or another. The only thing that talked me out of the Maximus is that it's E-ATX spec width and I gotta fit it in a small case. Plus the darn thing is expensive as all get out.
What I really want:
Nice slot layout since I'm leaning towards getting a 580 Direct CU 3-slot monster and still want to use my sound card.
The ability not to loose random USB/eSATA ports if I wanna plug something in the last slot.
Not completely full of random bugs.
As mature BIOS as possible given the new platform.
What would be nice:
Cheap as possible so I can swing for a 2600K too. :) It's either downgrade the CPU or get a weaker GPU.
ATX form factor.
EFI BIOS rather than the old school stuff.
Ability to run my Hypers
Pretty much that leaves me with just a handful of boards and a couple alternates.
Giga UD7
Maximus IV Extreme
P67 Deluxe (has PLX chip for USB/eSATA lanes
Asus P67 Workstation board that Rick and Witchdoctor didn't like.
Asrock Extreme 6 - alternate since it's getting high praises for being the least buggy board out right now.
What do you guys think? Basically I'm trying to squeeze all of this into a tiny Fractal Design Define R3. I hate how few PCIe lanes P67 has since all of these nice new periphrials rely on PCIe lanes to be used. :argh:
i like the ud5 so far just not the cpus :(
but idk about the hypers on p67 mine cant run superpi at 2133 at any mem tim and running 1.74-1.76v needed with high oc...
im thinking of selling them before i kill them cuz there eol
and saw sutff on z68 starting to show up now

I have been thinking about the IMC issues many guys are talking about. I bet the guys that are having trouble with brands, also have insanely high Bandwidth results.
Basically it boils down to it being another FSB issue. Since BCLK can not be upped, you gotta drop mem speed/timings to not over saturate.
Think it is why, for instance, Wprime runs easily at lower volts, and things like superpi require more. Since it is hitting the mem pretty hard too.
As for recommendations, I do not have one for your Chuch. only experience is with Dleuxe and learning hte pro right now.
New BIOS on the Deluxe works really well, M4E is ASUS flagship, so expect to pay for it.
asrock IS ASUS as far I am concerned.
OH, phases are not as important anymore, 4 phase power is Intel spec and their boards clock sandyB pretty well. Although I am chip limited at ~5.2 ish more speed might need more power.
Loaded sandyBs at 4.8GHz are using like 230W vice 81W at idle of power though (total system)

UD5 looks nice and all but it is about $20 more expensive than it should be. It's funny that it is considering where they priced the UD7 vs. the MIVE. Gigabyte confuses the hell out of me.
Z68 does nothing for me. In no shape form or fashion do I want display connectors that I will never use wasting precious real estate on my back I/O. I just don't see what all the buzz is about it. It's nothing like the early rumors said. It's just P67 + the ability to use the crud onboard GPU.

Ya all that phase stuff doesn't get my rocks off. The one thing that turns me on about sandy clit is the fact that it can do double duty as my daily rig and whip out competitive clocks without every changing cooling. If this was just for benching I wouldn't even care about all this stuff, but it will be 80% my daily grinder 20% benching when I can catch the wife and kid gone or sleeping. I just don't want some buggy garbage that's always giving me headaches when I wanna play a game or surf the net. Later this year I'll try to upgrade to a dedicated bench rig again.
wut about ud4 there under 2 bills and got the same look of a ud5
i only like the m4e looks vs the deluxe then found the ud5 so i got it and it is higher then wut ocm got his at but they all went up it seems....
but it looks u have to find or buy a 2600k that can run 55+ multi
i need to sell mine think im just going to play the lotto one more time and hope for the best... or go get my eyes checked in ny and take splaves

I like my UD5. Don't think the board is holding anything back. Fits my needs just fine.

Sure is man. I can have a 24/7 gamer box and I'm just a HDD and BIOS reset from benching competitively. When my finances get better, and hopefully that's around s2011 launch, I'll go back to having a dedicated benching rig and keep the sandy clit as my game platform. I really don't think I'll need anything faster for games for a while. That's also why I'm thinking about going highend on the board because I want to use this for a long time. I don't wanna out grow the mobo.
i been playing cod bo and tryed crysis 2 demo on q6600 and 9800gt
its more of you want to upgrade when u dont need lol
i do for benching more then games
so you ordered the ud7 already? u know u want to :)

Umm I'm on a stock E8400 that is a total POS for overclocking. I get stuttering like mad in just about any multi-threaded game. Hell when I hit the spacebar to jump in Just Cause 2 or LFD2 my fps goes to almost zero.
Yes I want to upgrade. I'm so tired of not benching it is rediculous. Plus my reasoning that allows me to spend the money is that I can have a real use for it. I just can't afford to have a dedicated bench rig right now. Especially when I can't even play BFBC2 MP right now due to the retardedly low framerates.
No I haven't. I'm trying to really way my options here. I love how the board looks. It was the first P67 that I really wanted. The gigabyte boards do get a -1 for not having UEFI though. The maximus is the only other one I really "want". Anything else is just a comprimise. I'll be ordering soon enough. I just might have to give in and go cheap, or sell some more stuff and get what I want.
@ Rickss69 - That TP67XE looks like a really nice board. I read the review on legit reviews. I would argue that it is the bang for buck board out there right now. Especially just for a play rig to bench with. Not that it can't handle gaming duty either.
thats y i game on a quad core i use the 980 most of the time
but its in the garage waiting for ln2.. im going to do 2d and sell the cpu/mb/ram and get a gpu pot ;)
and save for 2011 and maybe new gpu i want one lol

im at the point im actually considering my Athlon II x2 240 needs upgrading to sandy B for 24/7 and gamer setup :)
thats saying a bit (still using a 6850 and nvidoia 580 can suck it on the bench rig though. fucking nvidia cant even multi mon correctly POS)
seriously what n00bs bought into that company? Except benchers?

These were my exact thoughts bro, and IMO your logic is sound .... funny thing about benching with this is you really don't even have to try
So easy a chroll can do it ....
This will be my gaming platform for the forseable future, that is why I put it in a box .... Tryed to go small for portability. and with cool air the H70 I went with does a nice job....
Nip has the ultimant portability with the case he went with, but only fits a Micro
Prolly go with 4.6 24/7 for gaming .... funny thing is the MIVE has a 4.6 button in the BIOS ...... press and go, but if temps are reasonable I will use 4.8 24/7 just because you can ....
I am sure you will love the UD7 or the MIVE ..... had a 1/32" clearance on my PS with the case I went with ..... all the room in the world ;)
