View Full Version : What do you think about a grinders guide per card in sanctum

I would like to have a template for every graphics card that shows what tweaks you used what drivers worked well, vmods, pics, LOD, OS etc.
All posts in the thread will be updated in the first post and cleaned to no discussion only helpful info.
Thoughts? :)
I can throw together a template in a minute

Sounds like a fine idea to me, I always need some extra help.;)

example
::ATI HD 4870 1GB::
-Vmods-
-3d01- 9.* drivers..Windows XP
d3d overrider
LOD Approx 2-3
-3d03- 9.* drivers..Windows XP
-3d05- 9.* drivers..Vista/Win7 x64
-3d06- 9.* drivers..Windows XP
-Vantage- 10.* drivers..Win7 x32
-AQ3- 10.* drivers..Win7 x64
ReName aquamark.exe to 3dmark03.exe
d3d overrider, LOD can be increased to steal a couple extra mhz
-Tips-
Vmem mod, not necessary. Does not scale with voltage

Ooh, this is a brilliant idea.
Will contribute what I can to the 8800 series, since I'll be working on them a bit over the coming weeks.

Awsome idea, but beastly to maintain as results may vary
It would meake a great reference source for sure

yes just as a starting point im thinking. Instead of going through driver after driver etc
I was thinking a new thread for every card, just needs its own section :)

Awesome idea Al.
So much good info on the forums would be great to have an easy to read section for quick reference.

I like it. So create a separate subforum in the Sanctum de Bellator forum and title it GPU Grinders Guides?
Or should we not just limit it to GPUs and maybe call it OCA Grinders Guides and let it be for GPUs, mobos, CPUs, etc.? Would like to see it for everything because some prefer 2D over 3D while some prefer both.
Thoughts?

Maybe preface the section with stickiess for each app that have universal tweaks?
OS tweaks like startup trimming, LSC, Aero etc.

Yeah. Not really as much to do with CPUs. We already have 100 page tweak section dedicated to superpi LOL

TBH...will they consider this tweak as the so called "mipmap" tweaking????
in fact what is mipmap tweaking?

LOD tweak is similar but different than mipmap and is allowed.

mipmap IIRC reduce the image to frame renderings. Not allowed.
TBH I do not like allowing LOD tweaks either but...no choice.

LOD has nowhere near as much affect as mipmaps.
I mean, say you increase LOD to +15, the image looks terrible, and you'd think your score would double as surely the gpu is hardly having to do anything
But I've found LOD only has a fairly small affect, not dissimilar to other tweaks for other benchmarks etc

and another thing is that, with LOD, you need to keep testing for the right value, which adds to its geek value, :p. With mipmap its just one time change with huge gains.
