I would like any and all to post here if you have experienced hdd/ssd failures or corruption from the Intel chipset saga.

I will begin with mine. I have lost 8 installs total before swapping over to the 6 Gb/s ports...none thereafter so far. Feel free to link to other forums posts as well about the subject. While we are here also include your experiences trying to install XP with this platform.

No RMA available I bet, the B3 stepping PCH is not going to be available very soon. April is expected delivery date. I think.

I have not killed anything, but I am not running SSDs on it either because I could not get Gparted to run on a USB stick on SB. I did eventually added my last functional optical drive to the PC later and gparted ran fine from that... memtest and such still crash though.

I got a little data corruption when mem tweaking , but that is expected. Returned to low OC, fixed it and back about my business easy peasy.

So... no.

XP (well FLP) installed fine from optical in IDE mode. Did the driver install/reg tweak rebooted into RAID mode and away I went.

But then again I had my SSD and Backup HDD in Sata port 0/1 since day 1. :D

WTF is up with SB + ASUS?

OR is there something else causing all these dead ssd/hdd issue in your hands?

Maybe the board you got is bunk. IDK what else to say. I've been studying and reading anything and everthing SB and your the only one I've seen with such bad luck killing ssd/hhd.

Why didn't you stop at kill #2 and rma the board?

There have been several here that have lost drives besides me...and the issue with XP as well.

None of my SSD's or magnetic drives have been any worse for ware, But It took 5 different XP instalation disc's to install XP to a second partition. Once done my windows 7 install lasted 1 day until it was completly corrupted, I was using a Vertex 2 on the 6Gb port for 7 and 3 GB port on a Raptor for XP ..... totally frustrated,

I called Asus Tech support on Friday night and they had no idea what the problem was. They simply said the board must be bad and to send it back. (Pretty technical diagnosis on their part:laughing:)

I was not convinced and kept trying XP till it took with the fifth disc. Once I saw my 7 partition was wasted, I then called them back and was lucky enough to get someone with a bit more experience. They pointed to the faulty 3Gb port imediatly and said this would get worse not better and to send the board back immediatly.....

I do think once this platform is right it will be the bomb, but from the looks of it there will be plenty of pain and suffering to go round. But this will pave the way for the new Enthusisat level socket due in the third quarter. We can only hope ....:)

I was having the same issue with hard reboot to set timing as travis. BIOS is a POS

Observation:

Asus new BIOS is not right and needs time to mature. this is the kick off for the gooie interface so I think we may need to cut them a bit of a break here. Giga played it safe but I am sure they will have their issues when they make the jump. and as far as the chipset, well everybody from the bottom up will be burned and Intel is going to pay through the nose to make this go away....

I went thru three stopping at 1253. Also still have the issue of keyboard/mouse not working in efi bios...others have this problem as well but Asus has no clue.

So, the consensus is I am an idiot and all my OS failures are due to a lack of my abilities? Odd that I never ran across this before...I must have been extremely lucky on the other platforms.

I probably will go ahead and send both back to NewEgg tm. I can't really do much more with it anyway the way it is. Maybe I will get lucky and get a better cpu and a mb that does not fight my every move. :good:
