She likes to read books and wanted one of those Kindle's or something similar to that. I found that i can get her Kindle for the pc so i'm buying her a netbook instead. I figure it will be more versitile for her. I picked up a Asus eee model netbook. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220681She dosn't need a big powerful notebook, like i said all shes going to do is read books on it and order movies from Netflix and search for Cooking Recipies. It comes with Windows 7 Starter edition. I've read that the Win7 Starter Edition is junk. Anyone have experience with Win 7 Starter Edition? I may just wipe the drive and put my own Win 7 on it. And i'll most likely add another 1gb of ram to it.

I'm not too familiar with Windows 7 Starter as is is only for netbooks. My guess is it is a slimmed and trimmed version of Windows 7. I would fire it up and see what it is about 1st. 1 GB of RAM might be all it needs as well as Starter Edition my suit that netbook just fine. Evaluate before you upgrade and update. Then if it needs more then upgrade and update. :D

I put 1GB on my old Duron PCs. 2GB minimum fo sho.

Starter edition is junk. IT should be called Microsoft Free edition.

There is some serious limitations to it, so definitely put a normal OS on it.

Video is not a concern. She is definately not ever going to watch you tube or stream video in any way. She just going to read books on it. If she wants to stream anything i have 3 other pcs here for her to use. So as long as it shows print im fine.
