The first setup is all about efficiency and many global boints :p
The second one seems ( to me at least ) boring and the last one is all about fun :D
I would go with the first .

First time is all about going woo hoo
2nd and following times are all about getting the most boints :)
Take the cheap setup first. Learn it live it love it.
LN2 is hard, if you do it once, and cant do it again you just dont want to bench anymore. Something I know from experience.
yeah i was thinking of the cheap one first cuz idk what im doing and i wont be to mad if i kill it :D
but its like $38 to get it filled and not going to do it every week wife wouldnt like that, just droped her off at work she was your just taking me so you can go fill your stupid tank
also we might find out if where having another girl or a boy today :ohcrap:

Just have all boards prepped in case one or two setups don't jive. Always have a backup plan. One doesn't work, torch the pot to heat it up, take it off and stick it in the oven for a few minutes to thaw it out. :S
are you talking about the pot or mb :P
im going to use eraser since i have nothing else but you need to put more around the socket area then like i used on the ss right ?
and idk if i wanna wait till the weekend or do it tomorrow, cuz is this something safe i can do inside or be better in the garage ?

The pot. If one platform doesn't behave or just not getting you anywhere then heat the pot up with the torch enough to get it free from the socket. Turn your oven to the lowest temp and bake your pot for about 15 minutes or so. You can bake the foam insulation and all. Then when it is all thawed out mount it to another platform and try it. I would just hate to see you put all your eggs in one basket and it not work for you. That is why I said prep all your mobos in case one doesn't work for ya.
Make sure you do plenty of insulating with your eraser. LN2 gets way colder therefore freezing more parts of your mobo. I would insulate from your 1st RAM socket to your mosfets and from the top of the mobo to the north bridge at least. Stuff a blue paper towel in your 1st RAM socket as well if it isn't being used. Don't forget to insulate the back of your mobo as well with eraser. Do a good area of it.
I'm at work but when I get home I will post up a pick of my insulation job I use for LN2 as well as my bench table setup with the full sheet of foam insulation on the back of the mobo.

no need to bake the pot...just torch it to 50C...and yeah gloves :D
MaadDaawg
11-08-2010, 07:17 AM
Gloves smoves... we don't need no fuckin gloves  Well honestly, I do when pouring
The Dr was kind enuf to refer to the insulation, but nowhere in the thread is any insulation discussed other than the eraser, which is fine for SS but not for LN2.
You also need shop towels (lay over the eraser) = cut them like gaskets
Closed cell (?) foam Gasket for around socket (same stuff you put around the pot.
If you bought you pot from Kingpin you'll get enuf of this stuff to start.
Kinpins website has an excellent LN2 insulation guide in their help area
Go for it Bro
(safety goggles might not hurt either)
And... a trigger activated propane torch to pull down the pot occassionally
GO BRO

here's some facts:
1. 1Liter of nitrogen = 694 liters of nitrogen gas
2. nitrogen is heavier than oxygen. babies might get deprived of O2 if they're in the room..you standing might be ok..but babies on the floor might not be.
3. the garage is for parties.

Garages are cool when it is cool outside, not when its hot. If you do it inside just open a window or two. Keep kids a way as a precautionary measure.
MaadDaawg
11-08-2010, 09:41 AM
Kids and pets. If hot outside, fans in the window, if cold outside fans in the window. If hot or cold outside A/C is preferable in the window :P
just IMO
Its a Used F1EE
Should get it today but usps is running really late :morpheus:

As promised here is my little setup.
Here is what is left of my Hi Speed PC tech station.
3812
I have drilled various holes for various platforms. I hammered mobo standoffs into the holes.
3813
I have a full mobo length sheet of closed cell foam or whatever it is called.
3814
Use plenty of eraser on both the front and back of mobo. Like I said I use it from the 1st RAM socket to the mosfets and from the top of the mobo to the north bridge. On the back side I would at least do it where the socket is if not from the 1st RAM socket to the mosfets and from the top of the mobo to the north bridge. Try to stuff a blue shop towel in the 1st RAM socket.
3815
A 1/2" and a 1/4" works perfect for in-between the pot and socket.
3816
Underneath the foam pieces you will need some blue shop towels, which I don't enough of at the moment or else I would use it. I cut it to the same size as the foam piece in pic.
3817
Mount pot and then I fold two blue shop towels in half and wrap the pot holding them on with two rubber bands.
3818
That is how I do it now but I am sure it will be tweaked, twisted and change of the course of my overclocking career as I am always looking for bigger and better ways of doing things. Really thinking of going the vaseline route as I am tired of eraser. Hope this helps.

Graingers. My Lowes and Home Depot don't. You should have a Graingers somewhere close to you or at least I hope so.

Some neoprene can work as I have had some that worked just fine but the last stuff I bought turned out to be too hard. I am sure I bought the wrong stuff. I know the link that I posted is right up the alley that you want.
theres one in town but idk about that 4ft lol

My Home Depot and Lowes are useless. Orchard Supply Hardware opened up here about a year ago and they have a pretty good selection of neoprene.

Nice start DOM :) Only potential problem is once you go LN2 you can never go back :P
Something else that works good for insulation (I use it under the board and also to cover up any unused pcie slots is...... Frost KIng, the big 12in wide one and THAT you can get at Home Depot (about $20 a roll). only thing is it's a PITA peeling all the aluminum off, but it does do the job. Also use that for the back of cards etc..
for the most part, my setup looks pretty similar to the Dr's
