I bought one of these right after Koolance lowered the price to 119, but then ended up getting the LN2 setup so I've never used it.
BUT. The though occurred to me that this might make one nice NB pot that I could fill with DICE while I'm running LN2 on the CPU & GPU. Especially I think this would be helpful while working on my REX.
Good, bad, or ugly idea ??

i think it's a good idea... that's just me tho...
but isn't that a little too big for the nb?
like the holes are just too close together...
idk i'd let someone have one of those to say..
REX1? the 775 one?

Yep, the 775 one and my thought was just to let the weight and the TIM hold it together, the bolt holes would never line up. Still think it would be safe, especially if I can wedge it somewhat using insulation

Don't need copper for NB. Waste o dough.
Yeah, slap the koolance on the NB. The rex NB has that big IHS under the heatsink apparatus so even if you can only get contact on 1/2 of it, it should do well.

why do you need so much cooling on the nb?
i though tey will be ok even at 50~60C

Kiki, things like "all you need" and "ok" don't go well with extreme overclocking. It's all about trying everything you can think of to eke a few more MHz out of something.
In general, you're right though. Sometimes we solder and freeze things that don't do any better than they did unsoldered and unfrozen. But sometimes it helps. Occasionally it helps a lot.

especially with the pre "core" series of CPUs where the memory controller was located in the northbridge instead of the CPU. This chip tends to get very hot with the "normal" heat sink into the 70/80s range with a strong OC

a nice heavy Copper NB pot is preferred, constantly pouring to micromanage your NB temp swing in no fun....

That's why I thought the Koolance v1 might be good. Has to be heavier than Kinpins Aluminum one ??

The V1 is heavier than the Kingpin Aluminum pot and will be much easier for pouring, how ever the V1 is large and might not easily fit on the NB of the REX
