I'm thinking of getting a bigger monitor and was wondering if any of you guys have a 28" or 30"? If so how is it on gaming and movies as far as picture quality and are you glad you went that big?

I have the HANNspree HF289H 28" and am lovin it. It is great for gaming and everything else. I use to have a 22" but gave it to my mom. Every time I go to her house the 22 incher looks so small now to me.

Mine looks alot like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.aspx?Image=24-254-026-05.jpg%2c24-254-026-16.jpg%2c24-254-026-03.jpg%2c24-254-026-06.jpg%2c24-254-026-07.jpg%2c24-254-026-08.jpg%2c24-254-026-09.jpg%2c24-254-026-10.jpg%2c24-254-026-11.jpg%2c24-254-026-12.jpg%2c24-254-026-13.jpg&S7ImageFlag=0&WaterMark=1&Item=N82E16824254026&Depa=1&Description=Hanns·G%20HG-281DPB%20Black%2027.5%22%203ms%20Widescreen%20LCD% 20HDMI%20Monitor%20Built%20in%20Speakers) Hanns-G except mine is the HANNSpree version Best Buy carried. This one is also $300 cheaper than what mine was. It is 1080 as well.

Looks like a nice one, I see it has an HDMI to DVI cable for hookup.... does that handle sound and video if you have the cable to go from the MB to the GPU?

I run an apple cinema 30" and a Samsung 24". They are both really great monitors. Once you go 2560 x 1600, your done, you'll never wanna go back.

The 24" @ 1900x1200 is nice too.

Yeah I like the Apple but it's way pricey... I didn't want to spend that much on a monitor. The Gateway XHD3000 30-inch is like half the price now and I've seen them both on display and the Gateway seemed to have as good of picture, but I didn't get to see game play or DVD playback on either. I'm still not sure I really want a 30" though... They are HUGE!

Don't go with the apple, its overpriced. I picked mine up a couple years ago now. There are many 30 inchers out there for cheaper and better quality video. Just gotta shop around.

I use a 26" LG with 1920x1200 res and it's great but I am planning on getting another 30 or larger once they start rolling out with RGB LED lighting. My laptop has the RGB LED backlighting and it's better looking than my s-ips NEC monitor.

I used to use my Sharp Aquos 1080p for pc gaming using a dvi-hdmi cable. but the damn thing was too tall for my current setup and bothered my neck, the LG I use now can lower the screen almost to the level of it's base.

That's all fine and dandy but look at the resolution on it. Will look great but will suffer fps when gaming if you game. Mines only 1920x1200.

That one looks to be not too bad for the $$$ but I would want to see it in person before buying and be sure you have enough balls in your gfx cards to be able to run it for games. I would say a pair of 4870X2's and a quad core at 4ghz or higher would handle that nicely.

Well ask Frank how well his 4870x2 scale in xfire and then ask supes how well his GX2's scale in SLI :rofl

3d06 @ 1280x1024 res = 24,800 ----- 3d06 at 1920x1200 res = 22,500

Try that with an nvidia card, raise the res and watch the score go in the toilet. 3d06 doesn't even scale beyond two gpu's either, it only uses the extra memory.

It all depends on what games/benches you run. Honestly though I love my 4870's and I know hellcamino is totally in love with his cards. Both have their pros/cons but I know intel chipset and ATI graphics has totally impressed me.

Any particular brand I should look at? And are they easy to hook up HDMI to a TV if needed?

hellcamino
04-17-2009, 05:23 PM
I've done that with several tv's using an hdmi-dvi cable. For brands NEC is probably the best monitor maker, Samsung and LG are both good though. The DELL ultra sharp lcd's are pretty nice but look a bit washed out IMO.

Jeffro64
04-17-2009, 08:24 PM
On the brand I was talking about the 4870 x2's, sorry about that... we got a little off subject.

Jeffro64
04-18-2009, 11:40 AM
Well.... I bit the bullet and ordered the XHD3000:D

I was really impressed when I saw it in the store awhile back and I haven't seen a monitor that grabbed my attention like that since.

Thanks for all the input guys... gave me some good ones to compare!

BTW Nip, I think if I remember right that contrast ratio went way up if using HDMI, I could be wrong.

Your Corsair PSU won't be sufficient to run a pair of these cards unfortunately, you will need either a booster PSU for the cards or a replacement.

So how does that work anyways with a booster PSU? The main PSU turns on with the board, so do you just turn the booster on after the main turns on or what?

I use a 32inch TV screen and a 22inch LCD PC monitor. I much prefer the bigger screen even though my max res is 1366x768...or 1080P if I wanna run in 30hz haha.

Are there any reasonably priced 30" monitors on your side of the pond? In Sweden, you can't find anything below €1200, at the same time you find 24" monitors for €200.

I really want a 30" monitor.

This Gateway was $899... Not bad at all considering they wanted $1700 when it first came out.

Mine stuff.

Dell 2007FP 4:3 + Dell 3008WFP + Dell 2007FP 4:3
All S-IPS, total resolution 4960 x 1600 pixel.
None of that dumb LCD TVs with insane diagonals can reach resolution. Most advanced of them have silly 1920x1080, which is useless even in compare to single IPS 4:3 20" with 1600x1200 :D

Runnin with GTX480 softmodded to Quadro 5000 and 7100GS for third display.

The only bad thing, is fact that there are very hard to find wallpapers such size :-D

Sick monitor Tin. Even 50% off that 30" is worth more than all 3 of my monitors!!
