It has been 3 years since my I left my journey with AMD. Well it's 2010 and I'm picking it back up. Also it has been a few years since I started a work log on a PC. Lately I have just waited to post the thread when the system is built. Here is what I have so far.
2860
I have lots of work to do starting with the cheap arse side window that came with this case. Need to order me a sheet of lexan and go to town on it. Also need to work on single braiding my PSU or just take the easy route and order some pre braided extensions.
Hardware List So Far:

I know your going to laugh at the GPU I picked. It is just to get me by until the new ATI's drop. It is the same GPU I picked for my HTPC and when done with it, it will go in the HTPC Crossfire style. Hopefully we can get some more AMD going here as all Intel makes for a boring day. Stay tuned... :D

CPU Stepping for those interested - CCBBE CB 1021APMW
I forgot just what a bitch AMD coolers are to install. Waiting on the RAM to show up tonight so I can take a stab at it. Something tells me it won't be easy. This Cooler Master V6 is a beast. I hate to see the V10!!!! It has a 120 mm fan going sideways on it!!! ROFL
Going to have to pick up another 4GB of RAM as 4GB just isn't enough for me. I guess I have been spoiled on 6GB's for too long.
Hopefully I can get this Crucial C300 SSD to act right on this mobo. Couldn't get it to on my Asus Premium or at least the on the Sata III side. Sata II was just fine. If not I know some Mushkin's that will treat me just right. :D
looks nice make me wanna make love to it  i kidding
but i hate those amd brakets had to order one for my parents nephew kicked the case playing with my other nephew and broke one end to it :Dizzy:

I hear the Hyper 212 is very good up to a point...don't really plan on doing much of an overclock for this gamer. I would like to see some temps from your's before buying tho...:good:

I have the 1st one and let me tell you it is huge!!! Hopefully I have time to get it fired up tonight. It appears that with the cooler in tack I won't be able to put the top 120mm fan I ordered on the window. :( We'll see though.

I use the 212 Hyper on an unlocked 550 at 4ghz 1.5v and it stays cool enough to never crash lol. Don't think it'll handle a 6 core at the same speed/volts though.

that cooler should do just fine Nip, the 212 is a bit flimsy, great dual core cooler but mediocre quad.
I use push/pull with two S-Flex 120mm btw, idle is around 37C load's close to 60C which is hot in AMD land.

I thought of going that route with the big o sticks of RAM but selection was weak. There was some Mushkin Ridgeback's but the heatspreaders looked like they would interfere with my V6 cooler.

Yep, selection is thin and its usually cheaper to buy two sets of 2x2gb that are higher bin.

The cooler wasn't hard at all to install like the turds that did the reviewing were saying. I just took it all the way apart, mounted and then put it back together. You can see the clearance issues you might run into if you have tall heatspeaders on your RAM. Also you can see how far out this cooler sticks. Will be coming close to hitting the side window. I love it though. :D
Never mind the 24 pin cable. Soon as the extension shows up it should be nicely tucked away. I had to do some fancy sata and usb cable tucking. Almost can't see them.

I have not seen any game recommending a 4GHz anything CPU for "best performance" (yet)
Long as your RES is high enough to stress the GPU, CPU only needs to supply info to it (basically)
I dont notice any difference between a dual core AMD phenII 3.2 and a Core i7 stock with my 4890 at 1920x1200 res...
Still CPU clocks good for other stuff.

Just as I feared. I put the side panel w/ window and the top 120mm fan is useless as the CPU cooler takes up that space. No need to fret. Ordered a new window and I will cut it to fit. Prolly better this way as side windows always look better without fans. Also can't see the Cooler Master logo on cooler with side panel on but that is no biggie in the grand scheme of things I guess. Also ordered my 24 pin and 12 volt 8 pin cables. Was going to just single braid the PSU but that takes up too much money and time. I should be able to pull it off to where it looks nice with the extensions. I wasn't able to on my last build as the longest extensions they made at the time were 12" so you didn't have much to work with. Now they sell 24" extensions so I should have plenty to work with. Hopefully stuff will be here by this weekend so I can get this little o project wrapped up.

Well I'm at a spot that sux. Got everything ready to go but can't power it on because I have to wait for the stupid 8 pin 12v and 24 pin extension to get in. Looks to be Saturday (I pray) or Monday. Here is what I have now. Doesn't look like I did much but I got the DVD Burner, GPU in and redid the wiring in the back from the floor up. Also ran all my Sata and Molex power cables.

As I mentioned in the thread earlier that the fans in the window won't work as the cooler takes up the top fan spot. Wish I would have known that so I could have saved $20 on fans.

Here is the completed wiring job. Window should be in Monday and I will be able to put the side panel on.

I went ahead and stuck the two 120mm fans I purchased in the case since I won't be able to use them on the side window. One went behind the HDD cage and the other above the HDD cage. So that is a total of 5-120mm fans and 2-140mm fans in the case. :D

Oh my GOD!!! Sata 6Gp/s actually works on this mobo without having to jump through hoops. Just plugged in, turned on and worked!!! WOW. Speeds are better than ever. I am actually using the same OS that was on my Intel. Just uninstalled the unnecessary crap and install the necessary.

I can't count how many useless hours, days, weeks I tried to get it to work on my Asus Premium mobo. Piece of shat.
These chips or AMD run at high volts on auto! Need to get in the BIOS and get to know her. Be back later.

Is there any accurate temp utility for this CPU? Realtemp doesn't work and Coretemp is showing 16 degrees?!
Here is a shot powered on. Will get better shots when window is installed and on. So far pretty damn sexy all black on red.

Well I guess there is no way of really knowing what the offset is for coretemp from what I have been reading. People speculate 10-15 but even at those values the cpu runs pretty cool. Also I can't figure this out. I set the volts manually but for some reason when my cpu gets a load put on it the vcore volts raise like that are set on auto? I have vcore set to 1.4 but they spike up to 1.565 when cpu is at load. Can't call it. I have to be overlooking some setting in BIOS. Anyone know, let me know.

Do you have turbo disabled? Or LLC on? (IIRC LLC on some boards caused issues with vcore and load.., that was a while ago though...)
