I'm looking to buy a digital camera/camcorder to take pics and videos of my new daughter set to arive within a month :) I was looking at camcorders but I swear it would almost cost the same to get a dslr camera that does video. Do any of you guys have expertise in this stuff?

Personally if I were you and I had a kid on the way I would have to get both. The camcorder would do stuff the camera couldn't and vise versa. I have a camera that captures video. It's alright but isn't no camcorder.

Start with the camera then. I have the older model of this one:

Very good camera. Mine was 7 megapixels where as this one is 8. Mine was also twice as much than this newer one. I bought the newer version for a friend and they love it. It records video too. If you want to take close ups, and I mean close ups get another lens for it. It will run you about $100 for the better lens.

Yah your camera takes uber high quality pics. I was thinking dslr cause they do 720p video but researching I found it is at uber low fps.

I'm using an Olympus Stylus 710, it does video in small amounts too. Easily pocket-able with a big lcd and takes high res pics.

What DrNip said. I have a 4 yr old graddaughter and it's nice to have a dig camera in your shirt pocket for quick snaps but the camcorder is great at catching things you just can't seem to get with the camera. Buy both, you will thank yourself years from now. Plus you and the woman can always take movies in bed when you don't have anything better to do.:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl
Peace, Chuck
