Had it been there a week ago I'd have given it some serious thought.. but bought a 762 instead already, so no go for me.
I can't imagine what ASUS was thinking when they designed and shipped this product without the external LCD Poster ??? I mean come on, every ROG board to date had an LCD Poster!!! How you supposed to follow your boot, or debug when something don't go exactly right? No hexidecimal display? No LCD Poster?? Jeeez...

I have the Asus Premium and only because of the Sata 3 on it. Went to put a mild overclock on this 960 and the BIOS was just poorly put together. As I remember correctly my P5B Deluxe was just the same. Can't beat EVGA's BIOS. Best in the business.

I used ASUS boards for years and have always had good luck with them.
Whent to Gigabyte for i7 and eventually a 760 .....
Best of luck H&R ... let us know the verdict ?

looks killer and great price as well. Splave spoke highly of it, so take that for what it's worth....a shit ton.
I'm bypassing this offering for the SR-2. Got the chips, and the RE3 would be a lateral move on a 920 from the 760.

Got mixed feelings with ASUS mobos. Commandos have been good to me, but a crappy RE and POS P6T7 soured me for a while.
Knew it would sell out fast so I bought mine early. :clapping:
With the R3E, GTX 480 and a TPQ 1200 OC all on their way, I'm getting kind of giddy.
Now just have to figure out how to grease the wheels with the wife for a 160L dewar rental.....$150 + $45 rental + $25 delivery = a much better deal than lugging my dewars back and forth and getting overcharged for the hassle. Hope they can get it up the driveway. Problem is that I'll have a hard time ever sending it back........

Install a winch in your garage and pull it up your drive way. I didn't do this yet but my driveway is pretty steep and 160L is a monster. There is no way you push it up a driveway so I thought this would be a nice idea in case I ever rent one. ;)

Well, it's too heavy to move around so we need this winch, see.... Oh yeah, we need one anyay....It would help with that tree you keep wanting me to remove from the front yard.... And we wouldn't be able to get the tank up the driveway otherwise, I mean, Splave lives across country....You'll love having the tank here because I'll be home more often not having to keep going to the welding supply....and you'll get used to the periodic gunshot sounds as the tank pops off now and then...."

Didn't get much done last night except for insulating and booting into windows. I actually got sidetracked reading the manual. Trying to get familiar with all the LED's - there's a lot of them and they seem to replace post codes when not using the laptop thingy. And a bunch of "clear CMOS" buttons on the board that aren't "clear CMOS".....
Be a few days before freezing. Gonna try out the laptop thingy and maximize fermi setup before the cold. Besides, I sold my HX1000 and am stuck with a single CPU plug 750 Silencer until my TPQ 1200 OC arrives tomorrow.....
Very nice board design. LED's, buttons, voltage readouts, LN2 jumper, easy PCIE slot disabling,.....this thing takes a lot of Classified 762 stuff and makes it more accessible while benching and more user friendly.

I saw some 3d records made with the 0402 (03/31) but dont know if this is the BIOS it comes with. What version have you used at the ASUS OC event?
Patch
04-27-2010, 08:44 AM
Didn't check the number, but the BIOS date mine shipped with was 3/31.
Only gripe I have so far is the limited real estate compared to the 762 (a nod to case users, I guess....). NB sink is too close to the first PCIE slot - gonna be super tight with thumbscrews and insulation on the backside of the card - and completely eliminate its use with some cards modded with supplemental caps.

no not really, just what can be found on the ASUS site. 402 was the bios we were on at the compo. It was good but not perfect IE set some random voltages think one of the ich or ioh voltages decided to go to 2v or something on its own.
The different cooling mode options, the bios engineer didnt even know what they did so I wouldnt worry about them. hmm what else, I know you can flash the bios with just a PSU connected to the board which is kinda cool.
Also pure didnt even use VRM sinks on their board the power circuitry is epic. :cool3:

Well I would like to say that Thuban or AMD's next arch will drive intel's prices down. I mean you can so far get i7 920 clock for clock performance for the same CPU price, but the top end board is way way less than 1366. $230 for Crosshair IV and what, $400+ for 1366 board.
In reality though, if anything intel will lower their prices oh so slightly, and AMD will creep theirs up to expand margins. No company wants to sell a hexacore for $300.

Mine runs in the 30's.
I replaced the small removable sink on mine right off the bat with the meatier one and removed their laughable little token fan - I use high CFM ultrakazes and tornadoes in that area, depending on what will fit.
I bet yours has crappy TIM job on the NB itself. Sounds like you just took off the small NB sink. I'd suggest removing the whole heatsink complex that includes the SB and the mosfets and checking the TIM. I saw one picture of a guy with his new R3E that only had TIM contact on half his NB and SB to the heatsink apparatus.

Then again, I am the one with the IOH heat problem..The plate does not seem to be warped so I can only assume the NB or IOH is defective...Either way I dropped it off today and should have another on Monday...

90-105 with stock heat sink
62-80 with the extra fancy heat sink....
