Oh what the hell. I might as well post the pics of my incoming unit too. :cool3: Unit is packed and ready to be picked up by UPS in the morning. :D
Unit is built by Runmc of xtremesytems.
3/4hp Danafoss SC18CLX.2
Chilly1 evaporator
Four foot suction line
Edit: Listen guys, I have had two pm's already about the price on this single stage. Out of repsect for the builder I will not give the price up. LOL, well you're just gonna have to put up with Mr. Groucho until I get to fire this bad boy up. This thing is going to make my overclocking life so much better. No more trying to tweak my schedule to pick up the ln2. Now ln2 will just be to put the icing on the cake.
Just so you guys know Runmc's philosophy in tuning. He does use a load tester, but that's not how he checks and fine tunes his builds. He also takes a practical approach and also tunes on a motherboard in a real life scenario. I actually like that. It kind of shows you how much an i7 at 4.8ghz @ 1.55v is below 300w in "real world". :good:

What I like about Ron's unit is how very clean and well built they are.
He also takes a great deal of time to tune the units correctly with a load tester, and then double checks on a live CPU. A Load tester is not the same as a live CPU and he takes the time to check this out and give stats on how the unit performes.
He also goes out of his way to package the unit so it survives shipping. I simply do not hear about his units breaking durning shipping. Another great aspect of how Ron does business.
From what I understand this unit was allready built, yet he took the time to take it out and double check the tune and give it a bit more load handling capabilty so the customer would be happy.
He takes pride in his builds and it shows !

Yes you explained his tuning so much better. I am impressed with the pack job. As far as the unit, yes it was pre-built when I contacted him. He did check the tune on the load tester and a mobo before he packed it back up. We discussed several options for tuning. He tweaked it a little, but I told him I wanted the unit to have a "safe" charge.

I think this is the right way to go about it if you feel that you have a special deal or Ron told you not to share the price with anyone. I mean if someone here wants a SS he should ask Ron for a price and than he can openly post it. I mean if you receive a quote from a builder its not a secret. The builder on the other side should be aware of this situation and expect the price to be openly posted in forums.

Honestly I am more than happy with our agreed price. I don't know if it was special or what. The thing is that Ron post his asking price on his website. That is your starting point. I don't even know if he usually negotiates from that price. I made contact with Runmc myself, and we agreed on a price that made us both happy. That is my point. I think I got a great deal on such a nice build and I hope he made enough money to be happy. He may sell to the next guy for even less, but that's fine with me. I am happy at the point where we met. Plus you guys know the range for these things anyways. ;)

Max temps so far is -45c and I think that is about it until I get some lower ambients. -45c is reached right at 1m 30s and holds steady from there.
I can't wait to get the time to insulate the board and get to benching. :D

As where ever a person lives at that is different than where the builder is, temps will be some what different. Like Kals 2 stage Casade, here unloaded was -111.7, but at his place its -106
Also a unit with a very low unloaded temp will generally not handle a load very well. From what I understand Ron tuned it for max loaded temps, and that will effect the unloaded readings making them a little warmer, but it will handle loads better this way. Its a big balancing act.
But unloaded temps really mean nothing

Alright guys I have a little update. One of those good new/bad news situations. My unit was damaged very slightly during shipping. Whatever it is that comes out of the compressor and turns into the suction line must be dented a little or something. When I unboxed the unit, I noticed the insulation looked like it had rubbed up against the box during transit. The unit was actually packed very nice, but the poor boxes looked like they had seen better days. The unit will run, but it just don't hold the temps like it should. It will actually settle to -35/36c with a stock 920 under it after running a while. My guess is flow is interupted somehow??
Now to the good news. I have been in contact with Runmc from day one. Of course with my schedule it was over a week I guess before I really got to test it. Either way, Runmc is in the process, and is 50% done with my replacement unit. As we stand right now, we are waiting for UPS's reponse to paying for the damges and shipping back to him. They got a few days more though since the unit probably won't be done till the end of the week. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up. So far Runmc has been very fair and honest with me, and I am trying to do the same by being patient. As of right now I give him a thumbsup in the customer service department. I'll be sure to update you guys fully with pictures when I get the replacement.

USPS boxes are the worst about being crushed here. The mail man at my work half the time comes thru the door kicking the boxes in. The other half the time there is stuff leaking, spilling out or just straight torn up. That's why I never ship USPS or try not to because they are shitty here.

First it'll be going on my i7 920. It'll stay there for the most part. I'm prolly gonna try some older VGA's on it too. Mainly this is so I can bench more often and tune a little for ln2.
I did get a unit. The box looked like it went to hell and back when it got here. Here is the story.

You can always have it tuned heavier later.... or converted to a cascade ftw!
Since it's settled in, mine hasn't seen more than -38 on load @ 5ghz. On a good night it stays below -40... If I inced the probe closer to contact it would probably read colder, but what's a couple degrees at that point?
We still going to race? (vroom vroom)

Not sure yet. I still gotta pick some up. I've been looking around for some good deals. I might try it on the vmodded 4870, but the load might be too big with extra vcore.

try the 4870 on the SS ?? or if you try to use the SS ups messed up its not going to keep the 920 cool ?

The SS UPS messed up is already back with runmc. After about 20-30min the compressor would be super hot and idle temps at stock 2.66ghz was -37c. I tried not to run it after it was obviously jacked up.
aww cant go read the whole thread im on my cell at work :D
but usp left mine outside when it was snowing and he even put on the box to keep the box upright the left it upside down
but mine gets hot if i dont have the ac on room would get in to the 80F+ but it kept my 920 at 1.6v i think it was @-42c

Very nice temps. Generally -35c on 300w load tester is ~-40c or better on i7.

It's gonna be bolted to a plywood base like yours.
All in all it sucks to receive a defective unit, but what can ya do about UPS. Runmc's communication and service has been top notch so far. That kinda makes it ok since I don't think any of this was his fault. He's a super nice guy and added a little extra spice for this replacement unit. As always though, I'm waiting to test it to come to my final conclusion. Based on the service and care he's given so far, as long as the unit arrives safe, I'm sure it'll perform just how I want. For the record, the replacement has taken a little bit, but I didn't wanna rush anything to make sure he had time to tune it right. -35c at 300w sounds about right too.
all right :D hope ups doesnt do somthing like drop it out of the truck going 70mph
hope it gets there in working order so we can see some action

You don't want to see the pics of when it got back to him. It looked like they rolled that thing all the way to TX. :ohcrap:
I'll have my 24/7 rig back up next week, if you guys quit livestreaming, and will try and post some nice shots of the unit.

Yes the box was beat all to hell and back when it got to him. Terrible I tell ya. Not sure on the condition of the unit though. He hasn't said anything. I boxed the internal box real nice so hopefully nothing bad. I'll upload the pics tomorrow, but be prepared for shock and awe thanks to what brown did for me.
seems they ate it and pooped it out lol

You going to let it settle for 24 hours?
Ya, but when I asked him about the first one he gave me an interesting tid bit of info. He says there really isn't anyway for the oil to transport itself back into the compressor without refrigerant carrying it there. This is for a single stage only. Cascades have way more coils and places for the oil to get trapped and settle.
Here's what he told me to do. Start it on day one or 24hrs, whichever I want. Turn it on for 1-2 minutes. Let it sit for 30 minutes or more. Rinse and repeat while running it a touch longer each time. He said 5-6 cycles was perfect and would ensure the compressor won't burn up while getting any loose oil in the compressor.
looks nice now i wish i had went with him :( it looks clean ill post a pic of mine see what you think ;)

What the hell? You are sitting here trying to talk like mine is nice and clean. Look at you with that clean little rotary unit. If you didn't live in the US I would swear that was euro built. Those clean OCD type bends look like littledevil's work. Super nice SS you got man. What kinda temps did you say you're getting?
the lowest i seen it get is -42 on the evap temp running vantage at 1.688v on the 980x @ 5GHz
it idles -52 - -48 depends how long it been on and if the room starts to warm up lol
sweet ss temps on that beast, Dom... :ohcrap:
