Yep, for water cooling it should be a nice boost in performance and highest possible clocks on water. :gun7:

DAYUM!
There are other ways to get that off without the lighter.....
1. After cutting, put it in the oven at the temp of the solder's melting point. I would wrap it in foil, then let it set in there for a few minutes and it should pop right off.
2. Uber-lapping. ...sand that bastard all the way down to the die. It may take a few hours, but you won't have to worry about cutting, solder, or making shims for the corners.
3. ...uh ...pay that guy to do it.

i've missed this thread on XS but i havecome across others and the trouble was that there was hardly any improvements and the temp drop wasnt as drastic as this user "claims"
he didnt really provide any screenshtos of before and after which you'd expect to see in a thread like that

Yeah for the potential gains vs the potential loses.... I would never do it.

That's a preety nice boost down in temps! Might give it a try with C0 if I do end up picking up a D0. :D
I would only try it in my old pentium 4 630.But 30C under load is just wack.
RMA might be a slight problem for him.taunt

FUGGER swears by lapping Nehalem CPU's, 100mhz more top end so I can see this being a good thing. I'd lap before de-lidding though, maybe if I was into H2O heavy it would appeal to me but I need a cpu I can jst throw into a box with a bunch of other stuff and not worry about it.
i7's are really hot!! especially the es ones that i had tested were priming nearly 100c even they were at stock speed and voltages :) so i can try maybe

I lap all my cpu's and blocks, as stated by FACE411 just lap it close to the cores is the best choice, I lap mine in tell I see the faint out line of the cores.

yeah that takes balls.. not sure i would even do that with a $100 cpu let alone anything i7 for the gains you would get from doing it =p
