So finally getting my new Load Tester together, The copper block has been cut and drilled and will be shipped out to me tomorrow. I have everything else but the Variac which will be np to get.
This is the guide I am following.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=99979&page=2
And some pictures of the block coming my way. The extra stuff in the picture like heaters and thermal cut off switch I have so I will add all that when the block comes.
The heaters I will be using are 2x 200watt heaters so I will be able to test all the way to a 400watt load.
I will do more pictures when the block gets here.
I changed the thread title so I dont make more threads on the same subject

Very cool Bill and will be very good stuff, the same stuff they put in snapple. We're talking a whole new verse to delve into when reviewing pots, single stagers, even air h/s capabilities.
Maybe rig it up so that you can mount s775, 1366, 1156 mounts to it for true blue testing enviroment mounts.

Well that will be able to strap onto any hold down kit, just 2 screws is all you need and a hold down plate.
So any Phase/Cascade wil be able to use this.
But with new CPU's and higher heat loads I decided to make it a 400watt tester so tunning for higher loads will be easyer.
I can tell you right now that at 4.0ghz a 965 C3 is pushing 300watts (for the whole computer), 4.2ghz and your over 300watts. So picture a 5.3ghz chip on Cascade and what heat load that is.

Yeah I had the thread title changed.
The load tester will be used for other reviews also, but will end up being used for builds.

Well I know exactly what I want to build, and all the fine details. Been studing this for a long time.
Plus I have some very special Evaps being made for these babies. No details to be released for those yet, but I will when I am ready. They could turn into items I want to sell and dont want copy cats ;)
One version, we have actually revised this design. Sorry no inside shots yet :)

And the rest of the load tester parts came today.
This little block of copper is pretty heavy
Now need to get some sand paper and put a little better finish on it and it will be good to go.
The Router Speed Control unit is what I will use in place of a Variac, for adjusting the voltage to the heaters.
The little gizmo thing on the end is a Stancor thermall cut off switch for in case you forget about everything while its running and the Phase crashes you won't burn down your house. Believe it or not that happens a lot to people who do not have that installed, well not the burn down your house part, but some have burned down there work bench which could lead to that.

So are you gonna exclusively build single stages or are you gonna pony up and do a cascade?
Buckeye
03-03-2010, 01:04 PM
SS Phase first as I need a good benching unit, plus I need to learn the ropes first so I plan on learning with this unit.
Cascade will come in good time tho :)
That compresser is 220volt so that will have to taking off, but it has the base plate and condenser and all. Its the very same thing thats on the 2 Stager for the first stage.

Well there may be a few of those little SS birdies hatched I have a feeling.
Working on getting more of those Condensing units... what would be enough.. 10 ? no that would about cover what I want for myself :ohcrap:

HAHA :)
Yeah tbh at this point I am not sure, I can go as big as the one thats in the 2 stager (which is a monster) and thats the way I am thinking at this time, or I can use one like Jin did on my SS Phase. The condenser on the Jinu is about 1/4 the size of this one so I wil have to ask around and see what would be best to use.

Can't wait to see some braze work!
Yes I know, I need to get some brazing tools next.
Its looking like next month before I can get anymore supplies. Getting everything together is not cheap and I am on a limited budget, plus I still have to get my gas certs so I can get gasses.
For this first build I will most likely end up getting a lineset from Ron so I di not have to worry about brazing an evap and suction line. This way I will only have to do a few brazes and concentrate on how tuning works.

Prolly best to do it that way Bill. Slow, steady and make sure you learn the in and outs. Making everything from scratch can come later.

I might want you to put one of those lovely copelands on my sdumper SS as it's condenser limits the load more than the compressor, but i also probably want to sell that one so i dunno. Just a simple project to test your tuning and brazing skills. :)
I am pretty sure i have that same condenser with a danfoss SC18CLX, and so do quite a few people who purchased from ron and scott. It's a beast for a SS. I wish i could afford to get the equipment to build phase units, but i'll be building and selling bench tables, custom order cases for phase units up to 40" (that's how big the press brake is) and possibly SS bases if people desire them *wink wink*, by the fall :)
