Trying to get driver installs all finished up before 4:30, going to babysit my Sister's kids for her tonight. Then I will image the OS.
Got my new bench station operational (not finished yet, need some longer tubing and such and some wire management and get around to cutting the aluminum for the PCI expansion brackets and fan holders. But it is good enough to work for tonight :)
Up first will be learning the board and AMD DDR3 of course, I have some 1600 9-9-9 1.5v ripjaws stuck in there, and OCZ platniums 7-7-7 I forget what voltage but think it was pretty high)
Got drivers installed for WinFLP for pifast, superpi and 3d01, and Windows 7.. for wPrime and AM3. Vista is up next for everything else.:good:
Should be an interesting night to say the least. Wont be doing any 3d benching tonight... but just going to run them to keep in practice. Eventually I will get another X58 setup for some 3d bointing action :)
Starting off with sempron 140 tonight
Next up on the block is a Athlon x2 215
Finally the Ath II 620. Already had it at 4+ GHz with my DDR2 setup, hoping this stronger board will push me a bit further :)

Not finished installing OSes yet. Trying to find a softclocker for AMD for those extra pieces. Going to try out SetFSB tonight.
AOD works great but I cant get it to run with MAXMEM set.

Okay.. well little luck with high HT REF posting so going to play around with this and use this time to learn the arch.
Got the 620 in an some 1600 MHz 1.5v 9-9-9 1T 4GB kit gskill ripjaws
RAM boots easy peasy at 1800.. 1900 just wont post.. will see how it works out once I get into the ram settings.
Booting 2400 MHZ CPUNB no sweat of course... going to find my ceiling there without tweaking much... then try again on the CPU clocking.
4GHz was easy on the DDR2 setup, was hoping it would be even easier on DDR3, that might not be the case though.. CPU multi is down at 10X for now while I learn the mem subsystem though.

MWAHAHAHAHA
Had to crash last night about 2 AM but think I have the softclocking issue fixed. The motherboard comes with a built in keyboard "EVBot" so to speak. Using that works flawlessly :)
I pulled the LCD poster off thinking maybe that was the issue, broke a wire on it of course. Found more info about Tweakit and had to reattach it :)
Of course in disconnecting it I also broke one of the wires. (I do that all the time on these little ass connectors ARGH) so stripped hte wire a bit.. placed it in a spade bit and jammed on of the spade bit terminals into the socket. Good as used :good:
Hitting the shower and doing some house stuff. I expect to be crossing the 4 GHz mark here in about 45 minutes

Or I could fight with Riva tuner for 2 hours. :p

Well things turned out not horrible. I knew the chips did not have a lot of boints in them... but still managed to grab 20+ out of two setups. The real culprit is upcoming tomorrow. (Might switch it over tonight, but thats doubtful)
Found out the sempron clocks much better as a dual, so wasted a lot of time on that with little bointing to be gained from it.
Corrupted Vista install.. so reimaging. is necessary too (all 10 minutes of that ;) )

Beat and abused the rig last night... just pulled submissions off I had to disable SMART capability on my raptor to get it to boot LOL
Got one more submission (CPUZ) to get validated (I saved CVF) on it then going to try a low level format see if I can save the raptor.
Only had two tests left to run on it spi32M and PCMark. *sigh
I spent hours trying to grab silver in wPrime 1024 on the 215 despite a 285 MHz CPU deficit. Need to trim another 3 seconds off the time still. Once I get sp32 and pcmark down I will take another run at it.

Just looked up what one of the votlage options actually does after I was playing with it last night
CPUVDDA supplies voltage to the VRMs. (paging DrMOS, DrMOS please come to the nurse's station...)
In the typical leap before you look fashion I was playing with this last night and it seemed to really help stability out, to the point of benching with much much less volts. I have seen people saying on the web that it "increases the voltage you set in BIOS to Vcore", I did not DMM it to find out if this was true.. but going by software readings, quite the opposite was happening (1.5vcore set 1.35 showed in windows)
What I was doing was have CPUVDDA = Vcore+Vcpu-nb
I ended up really being able to drop Vcpu-nb to levels I see the pros running (IE 1.35 or less for 2700+ NB speed) despite running 1600+ 8-8-8 4GB ram. :clapping:

Yeah.. waitign to hear back from WD about the SMART failure on my rpator. (I was not actively cooling it *yikes* and even after I was the thing is burning up...after a minutes use back in the rig...
contacted them for RMA, we will see whats up. Might break down my nettop I built for resale... and use the 500GB HDD in the interim.. will see in the morning if I feel like doing it. Rainy days and warm weather for the next week :( Does not mean my OC is canceled might make a few MHz difference though not benching at ZeroC

Well finishing up the 215, when I was supposed to be running the 555BE by now spent a couple hours too many running 32m :)
Now my Vista/7 are out of activation and I cant "extend" activation because I had to rebuild the boot files last imaging. Sigh.. (should have had a few days left)
Going to start the fresh reinstall this time.. no windows 7 at all this time either. Just FLP and Vista. Hopefully actually get to run the 555BE tomorrow
Have not found anything else really new. Been playing around with copy waza.. I have gave up on the 1800+ file size and decided to go with my maxmem setting and run it CDT (runs it a few times)
Trying to finish up pcmark here with no tweaks so I can get windows reinstalled *sigh

555BE doing a fresh FLP install now. For giggles I already unlocked it to a quad as well, but for stability I am installing as a dual.

Okay.. playing around with some prime95. Small FFTs and blend tests.
Re-enforced a theory I had. I see posted all over that you need to increase CPU-NB speed to increase stability at higher OCes. This does not seem to be the case. What is important is that you maintain a +50% clockspeed over your RAM. Could not run blend at 4200/2000/2000/1600 7-7-7 but when I dropped to 1333 7-7-7 its as happy as a little girl.
Going to start walking up the HT REF a bit now... and see if I can pull some blend testing at 4.4 :)
More importantly, with this I hope to be breaking that 4.63 GHz CPUz screenie earlier and maybe even push the benches up to 4.6 GHz

Gah no time to read tthis all to see if I already posted it.
I found out CPUNB = +50% mem speed
I asked Brian about it and all I got was "memset is you friend" (brian has the amd memory record IIRC)
I find out later... AMD support says 3 times cpunb to mem clocks. MEnaing real mem clocks not effective.. IE 1600MHz ram is really 800MHz and need 2400 MHz cpunb....
I hate being right... makes me feel all responsible and stuff.
edit: what does this mean to you the OCer? keep cpunb low and mem clocks low and 4.6GHz is easy :)

Yeah got a guy out there saying you need 2.4GHz CPUNB at least to hit 4GHz cpu speed WTF? Seriously... this guy is respected?
Chew even joined one of his discussions and said "Glad I dont follow your guide or I would never hit the clocks I do" Granted Chew also runs 3+ GHz CPUNB in ever screeny I have seen he does....so it might be disinformation.... will find out how it changes once iget my amd board back and DIce again :)

yeah I have my 3gb hyperX t1s 2000 C8s in the i7 right now...
will probably be popping them in to the AMD setup for benching. For 24/7 I have my Gskill ripjaws low voltage stuff.

Dry Ice project take 2 starts tonight. And my temp probe is finally here!!
Setting up the i7 rig as a 24/7 box to keep we entertained while I DICe (must have entertainment while I bench :) )
Going to start with the 555BE, and then try the 955BE.
You can do EEt.... :clapping:

Hitting a wall at 5GHz.. most the time I cant even boot it :(
Tried high CPUNB, low CPUNb.. upping NB (not CPUNB) volts... running everything on auto except vcore...
Just cant seem to pass it :(
Meh... giving up for tonight and just going to bench that I guess
Neuromancer
03-19-2010, 06:13 PM
dunno the issue... im holding between -40 and -30 under load... there is something I am missing or too timid to do I guess. I tried raising voltage up until they scream (not all of them but the ones that count)
I KNOW its cpuNB/ram related... but... cant figure them out :( DQS should not be an issue at hte speeds I am running.

Meh could have sworn it was worht more than 13 boints.. since I was gettiung 2-4.X a becnh... guess I shoulda hooked up the SSD and done a wicked PCMArk...
imma go hit hte hair dryer and see if without IGP this board is worth anything.
got no acetone left (boo) got alcy hol though... not as good by 10C at least but works...might ber okay for a sempy...

ugh 3-4 pounds of dice left and i corrupted my drive without an image to save it from ARGH
well at least I have a toaster to puoll my screenies from :)
Only got on boint worthy... but man I was going to trash 32M tonight.
already did that on the 955 I think I made top 20 despite having no clocking ability...
Thank GOD so many people suck at that shit :) (Rather are unwilling to burn 5 lbs of DIce to get that sweet score... unfortunatly im stuck square in no mans land. no chance of grabbing next spot with out ln2 and no one else has a chance of catching me...without out ln2. Sigh
It aint as fun if I have no one to compete with but LN2 guys :(
Guess I am going to have to go 2x extreme and be a nub again
LOL I joke, my scores totally sucked except for what I routinely do well in ... spi and wprime. Only cuz I put in the time. no other reason. Anywho learned alot about freezing temps tonight. definitley are levels to what you can do on cold although TBH.. this supposedly great DIce chip.. I really doubt it could do what it was said to have without LN2.. Anywho.. learned on thing fo sho..
Copper pot and ACETONE not 99% alcohol (funny since technically acetone IS alcohol...) a half teaspoon of aceetone made a 10C differnce in temps... sucks once it evaporated.. .and I was stuck with a DIce slushy wiht no flavor.. (burned my tongue on hte damn shit it looked so good...)

Sounds like you had some fun bro ......
all boints are good reguardlees of the count ....
The Gulfies and the Lightnings are taking there toll .... but we are moving in the right direction to spite the losses .....
Thanks to everyone doing what they can .....
Great job man
