Picked this chip an Rex mobo up for some 01 runs. This is my first Asus intel board.
The bios is a little overwhelming. I achieved these clocks in a few short hours on water. I still got alot to learn on this board, but it seems promising.

Anyone got any tips for this board? Upon every reboot the lcd poster says Dram Loocked an wont boot. To fix this I either have to shut off the PSU or Clear CMOS then boots fine. Im using Triple Channel 1.65 DDR3 1600mhz. Do think the Triple Channel type DDR3 has anything to do with the lock up?

Im running the 0206 unofficial bios that Kingpin told me to run for 3d's. He was using Dual Channel P55 ram when I was their but that was Corsair. Corsair seems to be Ram of almost every board. I realy do need to get some.

ya I plan on it soon as I get funds. As of rite now the workaround is dont hit the reset button lol power down with the power button it works fine.. I got the ram down to 7-7-7-21 1659mhz @505 fsb boots an runs at 5.3. The problem Im facing now is horrible vdroop. 1.70 to get 1,66 idle 1.64 load. Load Line calibration causes instability wont boot if it is on or it bsod as soon as i enter windows. Turn it off an its fine. Im looking for a vdroop pencil mod but all I can find is for the rampage maximus an rex2 an a bunch of dead links.

Be careful with the long bench sessions and the REX. Everytime I have spent hours benching the REX under extreme cold (LN2) the Fujitsu capacitor behind the socket blew. Each time it took the CPU with it. I am on my 4th REX and the CPU's lost were 1 - QX9650, and 3 - E8600. As far as I am concerned it is not if the cap will go it is when.
All my Asus board act weird with Line Load enabled above 1.65Vcore. It seems they are stable under load but show instability when booting or idle with LL enabled. I usually turn that off while benching.

Gutterz, please post up your bios template for us to look at. I bet we can play with some skews and get past this ram issue. I used to get it alot myself until I learned what skews my board liked. You got cpu clock skew, nb clock skew, and then one for each dimm slot. As the clocks and fsb get higher, you need to advance those skews just a touch.
Second, you are really gonna be better off with a nice set of 2x1gb ram. You will take alot of stress off the nb, and run tighter subs and PL to boot.

Well all hell has broke loose an I dont know if its fixable an if it is idk if I could do the job.
I stripped the mobo of the stock HS an when that came off so did a 1R0 chip thingy lol. Located by the NB VR's :ohcrap:

The bad part is I seen it still stuck to the HS an I touched it an it fellsoft so I thought it was a pad of some sort. I get it all back together an it wouldnt fire. So I went over everything an pulled up a pic online an notice the problem. It wasnt a pad sigh :thumbdown:.
So is this fixable? The tangs are still their I just got to solder them to the chip again rite? or is it fubard? An did I realy screw up trying to fire it up? Do you think it would have killed the CPU? or not cause those are for the NB?

hey gutterz, you submitted this on the BOT right? I believe this is the same ones kal linked me through MSN the other day. Good job man. I never got to overclock a Socket 775 much, they seemed confusing to me. I stick to AMD and Socket 1366. I think I'm just good with setups that have IMC :laugh:

Ya thats submitted on the bot. But these were my last screen shots an they didnt save rite cause my thumb drive has an issue with XP lately. An now the board maybe dead hopefuly resurection will occur.

yeah small screenies, I can barely make out the smaller numbers What clocks are on the CPU 5.3 GHz?
Dude, that is very fixable. The part needs replaced though. I wouldn't try to solder the old one back on.

SMDs can be a bitch to resolder on.. IME. That one looks a bit easier since the pads look accessible :) IT is completely fixable :)

Well crap gutterz. Totally sucks but you should be able to get that thing running. Much easier soldering that than little resistors and such.

This, the connection wouldnt be strong enough I dont think. How are the pins on the backside of the mobo where its soldered? Any numbers on the chip to search for a new one?
PS what did you pay for that e8700! sickness, do you think intel will launch them soon in full retail channels?

Agreed! This is fully fixable. I have done this before on mobos and GPU's. I would try to resolder the old part and see if it boots. :thumbsup: I have a microscope soldering bench at my disposal at work which makes any solder job a walk in the park.

I don't think so! The E8700 is a thing of the past. All of the E8700 are ES chips. And I only have see 2 of them in public forums so far.

Back side dont look promising just some real small dotts. It goes rite above the butt of the flashlight under the middle VR. the left VR is under the insulation not visible.
Intel wont be releasing them retail I read a few months back. I paid $240 buy it now out of Hong Kong. But Ive watched auctions reach as high as $575 for the chip. If their not on American ebay you may have to search ebayuk.

Ugh!
If you can't fix it, send me the bios chip and I'll pop it into my board and see if it revives, if it does, I'll send you my rex w/bios chip back.

I cant tell from that photo but it does not look like the pad was ripped off... it looks the SMD leg is still stuck to it.
Just heat it, pull the old leg off drop the new part on and resolder it.
If it DID rip the pad off, that is more difficult, you can usually send it back to manufacturer with a $10-25 dollar check and they will repair it.
Jetway fixed a board for me, I sent a $10 check and they returned it and fixed the board :) (Even though the dmage was caused by a moron throwing the included 1U heatsink in the motherboard bag loose and knocking off some caps)

Neuro u misunderstood me. I though the 1R0 was a rubber pad but it wasnt it was an actual part. An the tangs are still their. They snapped at the 1R0 chip. The only way I see it being fixed by me is to resolder the broke points. The way it looks is like Asus heated up the 2 spets on the board an pressed on to the solder squares. If I remove the ears from the mobo I dont think I could attach it again. I have not soldered much in my life time an one of the things had to be RMA's 10 min in lol.

The chip is replaceable.... if you were to put another one on, it wouldn't be that hard at all. It is the least messy of all solder jobs....
1. Remove any old solder, and the joint pieces left. Make sure to get all the old solder off the pad.
2. place a tiny (really tiny) spec of flux in the center of each pad.
3. heat the pad with the iron so the flux melts, then quickly touch the solder to it... The pad should cover with solder almost perfectly.
4. Grab the new part. place another tiny spot of flux on the bottom of the legs. place the part where you want it to be, then heat the legs up one at a time while applying light pressure.
5. Done!

Yah, I've had retails with what appeared to be h/s marks on a perfectly new chip. But you can tell when you apply the TIM, the IHS sucks it in like a breath of fresh air.

Contacted Asus asking how much to repair, so I wait in aggravated mode.
The part itself might be damaged, or maybe something else got knocked loose (?)

I am not up on my electronics training we have any EE's here?
1R0 means 1.0 micro henry R= 100KHz and also acts as the decimal point. so you know it is 1.0 R10 would be .10 micro henries, 752 means 750 mA and 20% tolerance... cant find any correlative data on the D07 rating though.
VLH201514-1R0 looks like the chip but only 80% sure

IF you have a MM Can you check the resistance on the part?
If it comes up at 7500 Ohms (I do not think it will) it is not a choke but a resistor. I doubt considering it, completely looks like a 3phase VRM wit hthe little fets there that it but in discussing this on another forum, and doing some research, I found that it could actually be a resistor instead of an inductor.
