View Full Version : Anyone tried the H55 yet?

I have one here with a i3 530 and a i5 670. The only way I can get monitor out is too add a graphics card. Onboard graphics are a no go so far. Having to add a video card defeats the purpose don't you think? Evga tech wasnt much help on the subject...he wasnt even aware the 670 had integrated graphics. pullhair

Must have got Shannon on the phone, hahahahaha. J/K, prolly some newb that got hired somehow. Sorry though I haven't got to play with 1156 parts yet.

Not only does the integrated graphics not work, you are limited to 1.44 vcore with this board. Another failed experiment....:deadhorse: Good for 4.5GHz tho...I would consider keeping it for a 24/7 pc if the graphics worked.
EDIT: It seems that 4.5GHz OC was a glitch...no longer able to repeat.

That is bizarre
I googled to see if anyone was having the same problem and it was either you posting on EVGA or people with RAM in the wrong slots.
Maybe a dud board?

Yes, it was me at the Evga forums, but no luck there as with the tech. I am pm'ing another fellow on the forum trying to get him to try his without the GTX 260 he is using. This is so new they have not even had a chance to revise a bios yet. It does seem odd that out of two cpu's neither would work.

what settings in the bios relate to the integrated video? If it's set to PEG or PCI first, it might be the problem.

I tried to DL the manual, but they don't even have the H55 listed on the EVGA website yet (it is listed under products but not support)
Sometimes it really sucks being an early adopter.

Here is the final deal:
I knew it did not make any sense to have to install a video card just to get into bios. There are two ports on the mb stacked together (DVI/VGA). I had been using the DVI and on a lark tried the VGA...we got video...yay.
So now when I try to boot into Windows in this configuration it just hangs on "Windows starting". :flaminmad:

You get the windows start up sound through your speakers, even though the screen freezes?
I ask because I had a similar issue trying to get a video card to work on a PC that had an IGP.
I got video up until it froze on the windows startup screen, on a lark I moved the VGA cable over to the IGP (without restarting) and there was the windows desktop :s

May have to go in on safe mode and wipe the drivers. Could be a little f*ckery with the HAL.

Yeah or if you have a spare drive laying around, try a quick reinstall with just the IGP

I will do better than that...doing a complete re-install. If it has any intentions of working, it will work right off the bat.

Was that quick enough lol...10 minutes from last post to re-install and on the forum again.

It is working now sweet :)
Now bench it and ask HWbot to add i3/i5 IGP section heh heh

Booted and bone stock...
All auto - let's see what this pos will do...
All auto - HT enabled...
All auto - HT enabled and it takes the bump in ram...

In conclusion, since I am stuck with this now I guess I will transfer it over to the 24/7 pc. It won't take an OC over 3700MHz on the integrated graphics and only about 300MHz more with a video card installed.

An EVGA board no good for OCing? What is the world coming too! That has not happened in like... 2 years! heh heh
Still 3.6+ Core Eye arch... IGP... not a bad rig for a 24/7 user nice office productivity rig ;)

dude a H55 is in no way an overclocking board.... to be honest im suprised the clock at all..... those are workstation units...... now the H55 cpu in a P55 board thats a nice lil machine ;)
the integrated video Intel HD would be great for an HTPC or basic little runner, but nothing i would try to run gaming on lol.....
hell i ran one on vantage and it had avg of 1 fps or less on 1st test lol

Dude - This was a test for feasability. It is easy to naysay when you have not even tried. Now we "all" know a little more about the motherboard.
Yes, the chips clock great in the P55. I was more interested in knocking a video card out of the equation for some upcoming builds.

On a positive note, I installed this in the 24/7 pc earlier this evening and have this to say about it.
I can not explain it but this unit is snappier than anything I have ever tried before. It acts like I am running a ssd. From power on to desktop in 15 seconds. Loads and changes pages lightning fast. Using Tiny 7 and I am tickled to death.

Thanks ricks for letting us know :)
I still say boint it for 3d and grab some freebies :)
Will have to start a group about corei XXX on the bot... just start a thread at the Hwbot forum (well should only be 2 GPUs right?) GPU benching :)
to get it all legitimate :)

I'm using Internet Explorer atm. I just tried FireFox and it slowed quiet a bit. Anyone have tips on a good browser I can try? If not, this one is great so far.

if using IE (the new one) you can disable a whole bunch of stuff to make it quick :)
Will try and cover it tomorrow
Or use Fx, Opera or Chrome
All have their strengths (Chroma and Fx have great Java speed) and Opera great HTML rendering.
Dunno about Chrome but Opera is more secure than IE... Fx not so much.

Trouble with using these stripped down OS's is adding NetFramework. It just will not take and is required for most of the browsers. I'm so pleased right now I don't think I will bugger with it anymore.

Even if you download the standalone .netframework install from ms?

Only problem I had with FLP is with 3... which sucks cuz it is defintely the lightest install of the 3 (performance wise)
With .NET installed.. the OS seriously needs a week to settle (1 or 2) Iswear it is worse than indexing for disk thrash. (XP and Vista wise as well)
