Quick question
Once the new DP board from EVGA comes out does this mean its the "Must Have" for 3D benching ?
Because if it is :ohcrap:

The dual processor board looks to be a screamer and Shamino is pulling out all the stops to get things running FAST!
But! If it turns out to be the King of Overclocking, be prepared to pay a double premium over current high end mobo prices. Only a select few will have the budget to purchase this board and two of its compatible processors. Top End Overclockers had better have great connections or deep wallets to compete with Shamino and K|ngp|n in the dual socket category.
Even if I sold off everything, i'm not sure it'd be a worth wild venture for me but I've done nuttier things so we shall see.

Come one kal... you know it would be worthwhile :)
keep a socket 775 system for downloading drivers and go balls out on DP :)

2x F1 EE pots = $500
2x Chips $500-3000
Ram $100 - 500
2x 1k PSU - $500
DP board - $800
Knowing your the PWN the rest - Priceless
for 3D it shouldn't be necessary, it has it's pros and cons. It'll allow for much higher CPU scores but I suspect it may not have the Game test scores to compete with single socket systems.
Just look at Skulltrail, it wasn't even particularly competitive. OFC, I could be totally wrong, in which case my wallet hurts already :)

wprime would be sick...everything else would be a toss up unless it clocks like an absolute beast.
Too much stuff going on in my opinion.

Not sure how it works now as I have not uploaded many GPU scores.
But it goes by GPU's, single, sli, quad, etc. right ?
So you can use what ever CPU you wish in the GPU catagory ?
So if a few start using DP setups with a single GPU then yes they will blow away people.
Gulftown setups will change the bot in many ways. Any GPU that uses a PCIe slot will be rerun by those who have Gulftowns and retake the top spots. DP boards wil be at the top.

I say this will be like skulltrail, but I bet performance will be better with Peter at the engineering helm. I say it will be so expensive to operate that it will still be a novelty and therefore WR's will be separated like AMD vs Intel where you can claim a 1m WR with a 10 sec run in super pi.

^^^ this. It'll be awesome for as long as the S/T was....15 minutes :)

Unless we can put 920's in those sockets.
But yes I agree, its the whole package costs that effects that. Clearly its a powerful platform and the few who do get it will set the new standard for WR's in some benches.

We can always hope for a compatible bios with all core i7 chips.:) Even getting two CPU-s that can run the same speeds would be kind of difficult.. not to mention about ram timings and mhz
I think overclocking have already become to expensive, normal non-sponsored people can't keep up at all..Who the heck gets 10 boxes of HW shipping in your mailbox? and ln2 truck on standby..lol those top guys are insane.
I like the more "underdog" overclockers, who does great scores once in a while and does a really big effort getting their hardware and preparations.

Don't think it will happen with plain jane chips the performance would be killed. Chips need a high bandwidth low latency bus to talk to each other and the x58 platform has them... but they are already being utilized. The DP chips have an extra QPI bus just for intra-CPU communication IIRC
