Going to be borrowing Chuchnit's DIce pot, and I think I am about finished up with benching the ATOM setup I have, so going to get it all put together and list it on ebay.

Looking for a cheap rig that will be boint heavy :)

Also going to need a new PSU for my main rig. Want to get something a little larger than the 560W silverstone I am using and use the 560W for the DIce machine. My intention was to bench my 920... but it looks like it would be a lot of work for little reward.
920 at the bot (http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/phenom_ii_x4_920) 2 boints for first place in any category, and I already got 2 gold cups air cooling. So might add 4-5 points by DIcing.

Thinking Athlon II X2 240, but not sure on mobo/ RAM to get. Possibly sempron 140 although competition in both of those will be tough... would be better shot than my current stuff.

Figure I can sell my ATOM setup for about $400 beans probably so looking at $300 ish total for the CPU, Mobo, RAM and PSU.

Used is plenty fine so keep "new" pricing down below $400 for a parts list and I will do the bargain shopping from there :)

Thanks

Asus Crosshair 3

I'm the original owner so rma is possible

Thinking about hte TA790GX a3+ am3 board

Or should I be looking at a 775 setup?

I would prolly go with a 775 since PHII only scales with temps. You'd prolly get more out of 775 on dice than PHII.

That is true what you say, unless you are going with max LN2 temps its pretty hard to get clocks up enough for points.

Even then Intel clearly creams AMD on any bench so you would be limited to just 2D stuff.

Well pretty sure that a 4 GHz + range socket 775 dual core does not have the nuts to handle 3D benching either. Imma look at just 2D benching for now. Maybe later when I get another X58 setup I can go back to 3D.

<remembers a really cherry 955 binned for DICE I have on my shelf>

 You can always play 01 with 775  Plus with dice your looking at plenty over 5ghz with dice on any decent E0 stepping dualie.

Well im looking to start on some cheap stuff

E2100 series has a nice number of submissions. E4000 and E6000 series have a ton of submissions too.

I was thinking AMD because boards are like 50-70 bucks used for ones that will punch out up to 400 MHz :) (100% OC on multi locked chips)

I got my eye on a couple things though. Will keep this thread updated. Right now I gotta get this atom rig slapped together modded and listed on eBay :)

Grabbed a cheap 620 x4 Biostar combo on eBay NIB for $105 shipped.

Not going to get a lot of boints but will get me started for sure.

Keeping my eyes peeled for 2x1/2x2 GB DDR3 and a high octane son of a bitch PSU.

Getting excited :)

Of course :)

I got confused and its not an AIRGAS located near me :( But they do sell Cryo stuff. Going to try and remember to call tomorrow and get prices on DIC and LN2 (w/ Dewar rental)

Make sure to look up welding supply shops for ln2 too. Just tell them you want to purchase what would otherwise evaporate and to give you a great price.

Dunno how to go about that TBH, and I doubt the welders rent dewars. Although I am sure I will find a way to buy a dewar after paying rentals fees a few times I am sure.

I found the local company (I thought it was Airgas) just happened to be o nthe same page. They handle all kinds of cryo and are only 3 miles away :)

I can hold it in my hands for that long right?
