Just got a hold of 3 of the Asus cards..Demo stuff..My pockets are not that deep...These are the best made and looking big cards i have ever seen..Don't have to worry about these bending on ya in a case even at 11 inches long..It seems all cards have there Futuremark test they like the best...I haven't tweaked the cards at all..Just wanted to see how they would run....Beat my 3D03 score with 2 4870x2's maxed at 4.600...Will try more things later...

These really are a major improvement as far as sound and temps over the 4870x2..Took 1 out and ran 2 for 3D06...2 of these beat my top
x2 and I havent choked the cards at all...Not really sure about tweaking the voltage but will figure it out...Kal? This is at 4.5

FYI, the latest afterburner version has the ability to remove the ccc clock limits. I haven't used the latest version yet but the info is out there.

Tryed 1 5870 with 3D05..Kinda weak..But still just 500 points less than my 4870x2....This is still with stock 5870..Can you tell nothing embarrasses me????;)
On a side note..I am truly colored blind..all Black white and grays..Something is different...It is brighter..and i can't find the forum index...Kinda strange a guy that is colored blind that likes 3D colored graphics??? I can tell when they are good even with the Black and White..Must have something to do with Kal's top statement...

Your welcome, LS. Glad to help out where I can.
If you go over to i4memory.com, EVA2000 is posting lots of info for OC'ing a w3570 on an ASUS P6T6 board, a very similar setup to what you have. He also posts lots of info for mem tweaking including all the sub timings.
For this 5870, you might want to try the new MSI Afterburner app. I've heard of good results with it, not only for these cards, but past gen cards as well.

Use notepad to edit “MSIAfterburner.cfg”
Change the parameter of “EnableUnofficialOverclocking” from “0” to “1”.

Dunno about the new cards, the new afterburner limited me to 1.35 Volts. I use riva with config and Volterra plugin to jam up to 1.45v through my 4890 :), then Afterburner for OCing.
Oh and when ever I make an adjustment to Core/mem I have to adjust fan speed too or it drops back to "stock" (still reads whatever I had set it to previously)

It's funny you should mention it..I had the 2 300 raptors in raid 0 and had them split into Vista 64 and the Win7 RC program..The Vista would always beat the 7 when i was benching the 4870x2 Top...After the final win 7 came out I loaded the complete raid with the 7 Ult 64...In vista you could set for center timings when benching..With 7 it is a pain..You have to lower the reso. before it will let you enable gpu scaling...I think 7 doesn't recognize my 30 inch Dell. I wonder why Vista did and 7 doesn't??? I loaded the drivers for the monitor...Not sure why I have this problem...

What is center timings and GPU scaling?
lakeside2189
11-29-2009, 07:30 AM
What is center timings and GPU scaling?
In the ATI CCC you can go to display and tick enable GPU scaling and then center timing...It makes the screen the size of the 3D test you are running..Basicly it will help your score if you have a big monitor..Vista and XP would let you just go there and tick it...With 7, if you go there you can't tick it until you go to property's and bring your resolution down to like 1280 1024 and then go back and can tick gpu scaling...
It is like 7 doesn't recognize the monitor which is weird....
Using gpu scaling and the center timing in CCC will increase your score... If you have a large monitor it is a must..

Sweet, I had wondered about that, never tried it though... thanks!
Try it..I have a 30 inch monitor..2560 x 1600ish reso..running any of the Futuremark test would fill the screen and slow the score. Any monitor over 1280x1000ish would be more than you needed to run any Futuremark test..The center timing will increase your score...I just don't understand why it is harder in win7 than the others..:Dizzy:
69_Goat
11-29-2009, 09:30 AM
I looked in CCC, but I don't see those options.
Does it only show for certain monitors?
lakeside2189
11-29-2009, 09:43 AM
If you are using the new CCC 9.7 thru 9.11
open the CCC
tick the graphics at the top and drop the menu
tick desktop and display
at the bottom you will see a small monitor with a black arrow pointing down, tick that
then tick the configure box.
This will have your options to enable GPU scaling. for everyday use you would want to keep the scale image to full panel size.
for benching you would want to tick center timings...
with Vista and XP I could tick these at anytime...with 7 they are there but untickable..I have to go to properties first..lower the resolution to 1280x1024 and then go back and can tick what I want...Not sure why....
This will increase your score or atleast it did mine...

Just a note..after you make your run the center timing could be to small for you to set everything for print screen and paint..If so, open CCC and go to properties and set back your full resolution...Then do your print and paint thing...
My score increases by hundreds using this....:clapping:

Yea, I did that..I always lock on the last test ...I did run 5.75 and dropped the timings to 9-9-9-24 @ 1834 and completed but just a little bit of improvement 18,077...
I'm sure it's me..Probably the CPU or QPI volts...I am still greennish..!!!
I didn't think the GPU would make much difference with PCMark stuff but i ran the same set-up with a 4870x2 and couldn't get over 16,800 so it must count....
Still can't believe I haven't blown something up but there is still time!!!:scared:
You do keep HT enabled right???
I keep HT enabled. What are your subtimings on the RAM and what is your QPI/Dram volts. Also, what type of Core temps are you getting on the CPU this may also affect the IMC.
I am running my 1600Mhz Gskill's at 1914Mhz 9-9-9-24-1N tRFC 72 tRRD 6. I am also runing 2V to the Ram instead of the rated 1.65V.

HT enabled or not depends on the test.
For 05,06, Vantage definitely enabled... pretty sure same goes for 03. 01 and AM# disabled though.
Wprime and PCMark enabled, all other 2D benches disabled.

Pretty close Nuero. This is how I run em.
HT on= wprime's, pcmark, 06 and Vantage
HT off=AQM3, 01, 03, 05, SPi's, pifast, CPUZ

Yep, that is how i run them..3D 03, 05 and aqua give no better score with HT on. Actually Aqua needs to have an affinity adjustment to score large..If anything I can't keep the CPU speed up as easy and it doesn't help any...06 and vantage needs the HT...
I just wasn't sure about PCMark...As far as my temps I stay in the mid 60's running 4.575 on the highest core....Running PCMark05
I have never been over 1.80 on the vdimm...(paranoid)
Goat mentioned once that if I run a lower ram speed like with 3D03 at 4.650 lets say 1400ish I didn't need as much vdimm...I think he is right because when i drop the ram speed to run a higher clock for 03..1.68-1.72 works fine...
also to answer 2C's question I run about 1.54 QPI for 4.575....I have had it up to 1.58 for 4.650..Not sure if that is risky but the QPI voltage increase really helps when turning up the CPU..Thanks to 69_goat for that tip..
I have learned alot at this site....Still have a long ways to go....Great Forum...Good People!!!!
