View Full Version : OCD Noob i7 runs on DICE

FInally had a proper day off to myself and decided to increase some of my clocks. Obviously I'm still very noobish on the i7 platform but it was a fun, long session. I didn't come away with any definitive behaviors and believe I'm missing some secret sauce past 5ghz. Don't tell me what it is, I'm a stubborn bastard and I'll figure it out tonight during session 3.
Here are some random benching to find out whats what.

I did alot of benchin in the 200blck side of things but can't seem to find the right combo for alll around bench stability. When I do, I'll move onto the 3D benches.
Vcore requirements change so much between different combos of voltages. Its interesting to say the least.

Looks to be a very nice chip you have there. I heard the even mult. on these chips blows. You might try odd ones.

Never, never, never and ever use even multi (20-22-24-26-28-30 etc) on i7 cpus....
Supes try 29 multi next time....

Any particular reason why? Just Curious, that's all.

I was speaking of even multipliers. Dunno why they don't work but I get my theory from the many of threads and posts on them and the overclockers reporting of them not playing too well. Multpliers that I have seen work well are 21, 25 and 29.

hmmm weird. Example, on my i7 920, I use a 20x with turbo enabled for 21x. Is that still considered even, or its considered 21x?

Oh and 23. Yes that would be considered a 21 mult.

thx gents for the encouragement even though the runs blew chunks all over, haha. Havent tried the odd multi-s yet , thx for the info Crusty/Drnip, I'll be tryin those tonight. BTW, stupid Airgas had a rotting batch of DICE this time around, likely due to the mega sunshine we've been getting and their container being out in the sun. Picked up a few boints for the cause :D

Thx Bill, theres just so many damn combinations to stable its hard to find where you wanna be without actually running and re-running all the benchmarks. It was a BLAST of a session tho. I gotta say, with so many ways to the promise land, this is the most fun I've had overclocking in a VERY long time.
I was about to start experimenting in the 5.3ghz & 1.58 Vcore neighborhood when  OMG, RAN OUT OF DICE!!!!! All in all, I've spent the last two nights (all night) getting to know this system and Me likes it.
I'm really gonna have to find myself a good sized dewar, ASAP! :morpheus:

Peeps in US talking like this???? I see you are not short of money, why dont you try those -100C cascades by the various builders in XS, its on my wish list, just that shipping cost of the cascades kill it for me.......500-600$ for just shipping,...but I guess, having those cascades will let you completely know the architecture in and out....

I'm not short period. Rogue is in need of new chips to bench and I'm done with s775 and she's been a great member here and an honest emerging enthusiast. Why wouldnt I help my brothers/sisters out? Should I be a greedy bastard and hoard or sell my shit when I can help a team member out? Nah, don't think so. I bust my ass for what money I have and I deserve every friggin penny and every single discretion to give where others would take. :poopinghorse:
You don't have to be rich to give richly brother, you just gotta give and it'll come back to you sooner or later. For the record, I don't make much dinero but I manage it very well. :morpheus:
A cascade would be a sweet treat for sure cept for a few things, no builders in Hawaii, shipping form the Mainland U.S. is tumultuous, not many reputable builders willing to do so.
Completely knowing the architecture will come in time devoted to the platform. So far I've spent miniscule amounts of time with it, why? Cuz I bust my ass at work for long hours, manage this website, raise my children, take care of my family, and try to give back to my community whenever possible. Add the fact that I move like a turtle 90% of the time, the other 10% is uber fast overclcoking.

I am not sure what you understood, my comment was directed towards "find me the right size dewar", by which I thought that you are having difficulty finding a dewar/the right dewar.....
Ofcourse I have already seen by the various contests and giveaways that this community and more so you, are more than willing to give back to the community.....
