Retesting the AMD 965BE and this time learning how to tune RAM the correct way with a little help from Chew.

So for these runs I am using a pure stock Win 7 install, only things turned off are screen saver and power features, defender and defrag.

The goal for this is to get the RAM tuned as best I can and not really break any records.

I also will only be using my Blue Aqua Chilly1 SS Phase here, and tbh its really working nice for this. It's holding loads on this hot chip very well and makes very little noise.

So the RAM sets I will be working with are.
OCZ Reapers 2000 9-9-9 - These come from a I7 kit
Corsair Dommators 1600 8-8-8 - These come from a I7 kit
G.Skill 1600 7-7-7 - Old set of RAM I had back on my main rig 790I QX9770 days

So I will start out with the Reapers.

This still has much work to do with it but so far its going pretty darn well for a little Chilly1 SS Phase is able to put out cold/load wise.

The RAM needs to be tightened up more but I was shooting for the max NB speed I could get here and as I move up the OC I will need to drop it down just a bit.

I was able to run SuperPi 1M at 4.5ghz last night and almost get through 32M so I will tune some more and go back to pushing it.

* Took out that big picture

Keep at it! I am still undecided on the 955 or 965 myself. Either way I will be helping you get the AMD off the ground here.

I really really wanna try the amd's as they look to be a blast to overclock.... and dammit are they cheap

Still much more to tune with this. This has much more to it still ;)

I have another chip coming soon, a 955BE so I will be able to compare.

With AMD chips its all about RAM tunning and drive strengths.

You got to love it as these are quad's hitting upper 6ghz. Has Intel ever accomplished that?

Might have been a few that have, most likely cherry samples that Francios seeded out.

That TWKR that I had has hit 6.6ghz and change which is pretty impressive. These 965BE's should do the same also. Saddly I was to much of a noob AMD OCer to be able to do that when I had everything running here. But I will revisit that also when I get this tunning down.

When running 2D benches drop your HTlink speed down. HTLInk is great for 3d benches, but it hurts CPU performance (very very small percentage, but every bit helps :) )

At least that is what my limited testing showed...

3100+ NB speed is insane :) Man I gotta try out AM3

Well I think I have pushed these sticks as far as I can on Chilly1 SS Phase.

I can get into 4.6ghz with a slight dropping of NB Freq and get to about step 19 of SuperPi 1M then crash. Tried all kinds of settings but I think thats about it for this RAM kit.

So now moving on to the Dom 1600's
